It’s That Time of Year, Deal for Better Comprehensive Car Insurance Renewal - Increased by 45%

It’s that time of year again! I usually don’t jump ship if the renewal price goes up gently - usually no more than 10%.

But this time, Australia Post hit me with a whopping 45% increase! That’s a tough pill to swallow.

Looking for a better deal in the market (cash back deal? points deal?).

It doesn’t matter which insurance company, I just want peace of mind. I haven’t made a claim in the past 10 years.

You need to do the legwork with insurance to find quotes based on YOUR details, as there are many personal variables and factors that affect their risk profile calculations. What might be a cheap quote for me, might not be for you and vice versa. No point asking randoms.

The PDS inclusions does matter. Some include rental car, some market value only, some their choice of repairer, some glass cover or recovery included etc. You need to read them and understand what you're buying coverage for and what's included and not included. Doesn't matter if you haven't had an incident in 10 years, it could happen tonight, or in 5 years, or hopefully never.

  • first step is to contact your current insurance provider and ask them to have a look at the quote and see if it can be brought down. Thats what i've done everytime i've gotten a renewal from AAMI, and often they can bring it down a bit

  • I had the same thing recently. I'm with People's Choice Credit Union (CGU) with comprehensive car insurance. I got the renewal through with an increase of just under $10 a fortnight. I went onto their website and got a quote. I got hire car, unlimited windscreens and rating one protection and got it under $38 a fortnight with a $600 excess. I emailed the quote to myself. I tried on a few days and the quote was higher. I rang then and she said to email her the quote and she price matched it. Pretty happy to stay with them. I know a few people who have done claims through them with no hassles

You all probably know this, but when price comparing online clear out your cookies or better still use a private browser window for each quote.

Saved $400p.a. on my motorbike insurance that way.

Oh, and when they send your the jacked up price on the renewal call them and let them know you're not happy. Politely of course.

    (speaking from experience)

  • Different insurers charge different rates for different areas based on their previous experience with cars in those areas, so an insurer that might give me a better deal may give you a worse deal. So as said, find quotes based on your specific details

We’ve found Youi significantly cheaper than others. Claims process is also super easy via their App.

have you done a new quote with Auspost - which includes the Save $75 when you buy online. + 13.3% Cashback @ ShopBack ?

  • Why not just use the free insurance that comes with your rego? 😏

Haha that won't get your car or the other car fixed. From the car rego insurance you get a payout if you're severely injured or die in a crash.

      • you get a payout if you're severely injured or die in a crash.

        Then crash it well

  • You'll have to look for quotes based on your car and circumstances.

When I bought a Mazda 3 this year I looked around for insurance. AAMI and Budget Direct were over $1400. Those commercials are funded by customers, and it shows.

I went with Hollard through CBA. Never heard of Hollard, but they wanted only $720.

Case in point: BD offered me $1400, did a quote with Hollard and they came back with $3600 lol
