Do ya reckon worth waiting for October sale?

Lowest I've seen the sling bag go for is $41.99 for the black (usually during the bigger sales such as Black Friday/Big Deal).

That orange blue one kind of growing on me

Orange Blue is one of their newer colour at Amazon AU, so barely any price-history/discount.

Personally I like the X-Pac, but already own the black.

      • Just curious, coz I can't make up my mind… What do you like about the x-pac over this one?

        • +5

The X-Pac material is waterproof and lighter.

Also the orange interior makes it easier to find stuff in the sling (black has a black interior).

          • @RichardL: ooh waterproof would be nice. Cheers!

            • @pitythekid: X-Pac seems to be on sale as well on Amazon.
              Lowest on CCC

              • @SueyJitSu: I got the X-PAC for everyday use love it highly recommended it

              • @SueyJitSu: Yep, already included in the description.

              • +1

@SueyJitSu: Which one is the X-Pac? Doesn't seem to say.

When I click on the X-Pac link it just takes me to the standard one

                • +1

@KnifeEnthusiastBoi: Yeah seems my link and the OP link to the X-Pac now just takes you to the regular version. Must be sold out 🤷

                  • @SueyJitSu: That sucks. Cant find the x-pac anywhere.. not even aisting for full price

                • @KnifeEnthusiastBoi: Because the X-Pac is sold out

            • @pitythekid: All the others are water resistant. Bought the Xpac and blue/orange as Xmas gifts last deal. BO has a light grey interior so while not as good as an orange interior imo, is still light enough to find things easily. As I said on the previous deal the BO would be very smart with an orange strap instead of the black.

              • @Igaf: Long shot but the above has sold me on the X-pac which is sold out….anyone have alternate links for a similar/any deals?

                • +1

@jvic: It sold out on the first Ozb deal, came back quickly, then sold out again. As this repeat deal suggests, they may send more over and run a similar deal if you wait (late Nov Black Friday sales for eg).

Previously the Xpac and blue/orange were only available in the USA and UK (/Europe?). You can't get them delivered via Amazon US or tomtoc.com even if it was economical. It was possible about 12 months ago to purchase from Az.UK but the delivered price was ott.

To be honest the differences between versions aren't significant imo.

                  • +1

@Igaf: Thank you! Looks like they just restocked but at "usual" pricing. Appreciate the insight.

                • +1

@jvic: Just checked and you can still get it delivered from Amazon UK - if you're desperate.
Currently there's a 15% coupon but expensive delivery of £14.61 (AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping) makes it ~$A100 total.

    • +1

That blue and orange one is a very nice looking European carry all

Anyone bought the knock off from ali, are they much different?

    • +1

Most likely won't be the same quality.

ie. Not Cordura Ballistic Fabric and not YKK Zippers.

    • +6

There's a few brands on AliExpress that use YKK zippers (I got a Mark Ryden one with YKK zips which seems to be decent but will have to see how it travels) but Tomtoc have established a reputation.

      • Can you share link from aliexpress one?

        • +1

The one is called the Chillflex - it's a bit more basic as I wanted something super lightweight and packable but it has YKK zips. Can't share the link on mobile as the app isn't playing nice.

      • You got a link looks nice the one you are describing

      • Maybe this is yours?
AU$53.02 | MARK RYDEN Mini Shoulder Bag for Men with Multiple Pockets Fits 7.9in Ipad
        https://aliexpress.com/item/1005005363699762.html

Yep i know that brand its very good build and material but the messager bg i got (not sling) is heavy….

        • Thanks, got for $14.63 with Welcome deal. Will be going under my jacket when I go to Paris.

A healthy level of distrust, I have.

Also btw, no YKK zippers on this one. SBS apparently.

        • This one is showing $24.39 now. Is it a good quality bag?

      • +2

I own a few Mark Ryden Tech Pouch and can confirm that they have YKK Zippers.

  • +2

These are bordering on no longer a deal IMO. Unfortunately, they're just in their regular discounted price cycle that happens every few months (no genuine discounts). It'd be nice if they gave their items a proper haircut around BF/CM.

    • +1

      happens every few months

I believe it's monthly at this point. Usually the second last/last week of the month.

It'd be nice if they gave their items a proper haircut around BF/CM.

Agreed, but doubt it will happen. Just look at the pricing history of deals post always hovering around $40-$45.

      • Yeah I remember seeing your other posts throughout the year, which is what I usually look out for to see if it's actually any cheaper 🤑

  • Reminds me of Peak Design sling bags.

    • Just minus the price

    • +1

As I've have the peak design slings in all the sizes and this at one point, it's really not close in terms of use cases or design.

This I find it more suitable for light carry and nintendo switch. No camera gear at all would really suit. I find the zip opens up really big and I find things are at risk of falling out sometimes. It's long rectangular rather than boxy, which I find limits what is suitable to carry in it. A phone, switch, powerbank would all suit. But anything squarish or wide isn't ideal.

  • I somehow like Kathmandu's shoulder bag

  • I've been using black one for a few months, and got olive green one a few weeks ago, too

black is really good, I love it

olive is not as impressive in real life

keen to try another CW but nothing else makes me feel like getting one

          • @HolyCr4p: Clockwork.

Some acronyms really are not universal, and this is one of 'em.

    • Ah i almost bought the olive…

      • My daughter loves her olive Tt. Certainly better than some of the others imo. Top 3 are Xpac, blue/orange and olive. ymmv

    • Do you wear it over the right or left shoulder? How much slack do you give it whilst using it?

      • Packhacker mentioned this series is not made for ambidextrous (so aimed mainly at right handers)

      • It's made to be worn over left shoulder so you can quickly bring it to the front and unzip. There's a Youtube video showing it, probably linked in one of the previous deals.

      • left. I don't think it's possible to have it on the right

  • Can you wear it around your waist or just shoulders?

    • +1

The angle of the straps makes it difficult to wear around the waist.

  • Used if for over 3 weeks travel recently. Happy with it. Small amount of wear on parts of the stitching is visible at the end of the travel.

  • Has anyone got both this and one of the Bellroy sling line of bags?

The way the Bellroy strap attaches to the band and can be adjusted, plus the apparent restriction to using the tomtoc on only the left shoulder makes me wonder if it’s worth the extra cost for the Bellroy.

    • +1

before this I used Bellroy slings, and this is better overall, including the looks.

but to be honest black tomtoc looks the best, the other colours are a bit weaker in the looks dept

      • Thanks for the reply. I’ll give it a go at this price

    • There's a guy on YouTube who has both and did a review. He said he likes both but thinks the tomtoc is better

  • Enjoyed this so much when I solo travelled Japan.

  • +2

    Update

I have bought the X-Pac last time it was posted. I can say after using it daily that I am extremely happy with the quality and the design of the product.

  • Xpac link doesn’t seem to work anymore…

    • +1

I'll stick to my black and olive, but grabbed a 7L one for when I need my tablet (I already have black tomtoc 9L one which is perfect for my MBP 14)

    • +1

Looks like it's out of stock.

      • Cheers. Guess that made my choice easier. Pulled the trigger on blue and orange. Finally part of the ozbargain Tomtoc eshay gang.

You on the eshay bags son

        • *You're

  • Got mine today, relatively well made, went with orange and blue, kinda wish it was more vibrant like in the photos. Zipper smooth, will try and see how much I can comfortably fit. Hoping to comfortably fit a Sony rx100m6 in the main pocket.

Physically , overall it’s not too dissimilar in size to the Topo designs quickpack - which I used as a edc for most of 2022-2023 when I went through an EDC craze. It’s rated for 7L only , but can fit an iPad Pro m1 11 inch with the m1 compatible Magic Keyboard. Also has ykk zipper and comes in some cool colours now and then. It also can be used as either a sling or a chunky hip mounted bag. It goes for about $90 though.

  • -2

Are we all sure this isn’t a purse , right?

    • +2

Yep we are, although 20th century reactionaries may have problems assimilating the concept of unisex shoulder bags. Would it help if it came in cammo or khaki and had a few cartridge slots on the belt?

  • -1

    Yes , absolutely.
    That would help .

If it was plain leather and had at least 30 cartridge loops I think I could go for it .

    • Where would you clip the grenades and medkit to though

      • Grenades would hang off the leather choker or nose/nipple rings. Real men don't need a medikit.

  • -1

Grenades are for (profanity)’s who can’t fight hand to hand,
and don’t need no stinking medkit.
Just rub some dirt on it and walk it off.

  • Deal - with a new smart black/grey option - is back at slightly lower prices.
