Just came across this as i was looking for a ultrawide for the new office. it seems they've finally implemented HDMI 2.1 into some of there models and are claiming they can run 144hz. I'm not sure if there crap or even comparable to the lgs but if your willing to take the risk the price isn't too bad.

55 Inch $1299 https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-55-oled-4k-120hz-smart-go…

They just chuck ai in anything, what does the ai in this TV even do?

    • +2

Actually AI has been around for so long. The term 'AI' happen to be popular recently so they just put it on everything that actually already has AI since forever just to upsell.
Example AI application on TV= auto detect input/output (whether a cable connected), picture mode changes based on hdmi input (example: gaming picture mode when connected to PS/Xbox), Youtube or Netflix content recommendation based on last watch or search, and many more

      • +2

I don't think those are examples of AI, aren't they regular old computer programming?

      • +1

What you're referring to isn't ai. Ai is artificial intelligence. A tvs ability to automatically recognize an analogue or digital input is not ai. This has been around prior to LLMs, which many mistakes for ai.

This TV doesnt have ai. This TV might have a small LLM, but not an ai.

        • You are correct at somepoint. Also LLM, machine learning, and big data are how current AI born.
However, some companies just put a small portion of it to be called AI. Anything when the machine decide the outcome right away in "an intelegent way" can be called AI.

    • AI in TVs is mainly for upscaling low res content. It also can be for degraining a noisy picture, adding more saturation or a HDR effect to SDR content. The chips in these TVs I wouldn't expect anything good at all though

  • anyone have general experience with the Kogan TVs?

i'm looking at possibly this one —> https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-65-qled-4k-webos-smart-tv…

    seems okay for $689?

    • You get what you pay for

  • It's like what. $300 more to get an LG on sale? I'd do it just for easier returns. Honestly what even is kogans business model anymore. They must just be pumping junk through Facebook marketing.

    • 42 vs 48

Bought earlier this year and it is a surprisingly good TV. Was definitely very impressed, as everything looks great and better than TCL mini led.

Only complaint is that the remote is Bluetooth, so I can't control the TV using Chromecast remote.

At least with Bluetooth you don't need to have direct line of sight to an IR receiver. That's one positive thing.

Doesn't matter what processor the tv has if you hook it up to a PC. all the image enhancement stuff will be getting turned off.

All i need is 4K120hz and a Nvidia card.

Thinking about getting one of these for my old man.

I mean it is an LG oled panel.

Edit: talked myself into it, and bought one. will let you know how it goes.

    • Awesome keen to hear your thoughts. i might grab one myself and set my desk back a bit more. 42 would have been nice.

        On my PC i use a 55" lg C9 oled at 4K120hz

I don't have to sit back, I just use a black desktop, and run things in windowed mode at whatever size i want. It's like having a resizable monitor, since it's pitch black.

It will be interesting to see anyway as there are zero reviews out there. I'm willing to take a risk for 1000 dollars for a 4k144hz oled.

Also Only the newer LG's have 4K144hz, so they must be using tech from LG C4

        • Another great point about the 144hz. does anyone else manufacture oled panels? i know B&O Used lg at one point but it would be pretty drastic if kogan also did hahah.

          • +1

@bob98: I think LG is the only one who makes oled panels, and it says LG Panel under the TV specs anyway :D

            • @Pittyh: missed that..

            • @Pittyh: just a quick note some of there older oled pc monitors ran at higher than 120hz. its playing on my mind as if its a c4 panel theres no reason not to hahahah.

    • Do you know what LG TV shares the same panel? 48" assuming its the C series that makes 48?

      • a fair few theres a load of 48 gaming monitors.

        Edit.
sorry no i dont i was trying to figure it out but theres to many variables with the older range of gaming models.

      • There aren't many 48" oleds that can do 144hz @ 4K.

In fact there are none apart from the C4

        • True, are you suggesting they share the same panel?
