  • Note this is locked to Telstra….

    • Telstra. These used to be sold by Crazy Johns and their prepaid version (same as this Telstra one) were unlocked, I don't know if that's the case with the Telstra one.

I don't know how much these cost to unlock, but unlocked versions of this phone are selling from $249 upwards, but I notice DS have the unlocked version of this phone on special at the moment for $229 (usually $279)

      • Interesting, never knew that…

If Telstra's unlocking fee for this unit costs $100, then eBay is probably the only other cheap option.

      • You can call Telstra to unlock it straight away for $100. Otherwise, you have to use the phone for 6 months or longer. Then, they will charge you around $27 to unlock the phone.

  • Better option would be the Xperia sola from vodaphone (free unlock)

    • Wouldn't be NextG though

      • it's Next G compatible, as well as Yes G compatible (xperia sola)

    • +2

Xperia U has the illuminated strip which is a really nice touch to the customizable themes. Something no other phone range really has.

      • The S has it too but it only illuminates in white. With the U you can get an app that allows you to choose various colours.

  • Pity memory can't be expanded - no memory card slot.

  • Is this deal valid only from the 6th of December as the current catalog seems to be running till 5th Dec

    • Yes this is in the new catalogue

  • +3

I just got the Xperia P, which is basically the same phone with a 4.0" screen and I love it. This is a great price for a well-built dual core.

    • +1

Sorry mate wanted to give you a positive but accidentally hit negative.

These phones are well built, look good, and have an excellent screen. I got one of these when I lost my S, but I missed the larger screen, so I bought another S again.

      • Dunno why someone would neg you :O

  • It is same as Acer liquid metal last year bought from JB. Good deal .. will buy one if Kmart has stock :)

    • Lots of places carry this phone ie jb, da, HN so it won't be hard to price match

  • Will this work well on optus 3G?

Why do they give 2010 ram and storage? Such a shame, looks quite decent otherwise.

    • +1

Because its a budget phone. Well, to be fair they could have added in a MicroSD slot, but 512mb of ram is very reasonable considering how little the Galaxy Ace had, which came out last year with 278mb of ram, and arrived as a MIDRANGE phone. This is budget.

    • but look at the low price!
it is still has respectable specs and is usable in 2013!

  • This is so cheap for an excellent branded phone. Might buy this for my daughter

  • Guys anyone tried unlocking code from ebay or online unlocking

    • I can't find any on eBay. If any one has found one please post the link!

      • Unfortunately new Sony phones are extremely hard to unlock (made after the 10th week of 2012)
Even the professional unlockers are looking at around $30 per unlock as their cost. So it is quite unlikely you would find unlock with IMEI or even if you found one it would be quite expensive.

no microsd card slot really kills its for me.

  • This phone is so stupendously slow… This is especially so after updating it to ICS. Borderline unusable. It would often take ~6 seconds from touching the screen to bring up a received SMS before it actually displayed the message. It simply doesn't have enough RAM.

I only managed to put up with it for 1 month before I gave up and got something else.

    • Apparently you need to do a full reset to make it run smoother

  • This phone run super smooth on GB 2.3.7 official stock rom very reponsive and screen very good compare to others on the same price range also have front facing camera but no micro sd card which i dont need.
Offical ICS is not released here in australia but coming before end of the year.
Unlocking this device is not cheap cost 44US $ but can be unlocked by telstra after 6 months for 27$
I have the motorola defy+ fro 100$ rooted and CM9 installed its laggy
