What is activated carbon?
Activated carbon is chemical filtration you put in your filter. It removes any chemicals you have in your water keeping it crystal clean.
Its only down side is it can also remove nutrients that plants need, and will need to be occasionally replaced, but clears up ammonia and any other toxic chemicals you may have in your tank.
