  • Bought this bundle several days ago when it first launched. Yes, the earlier versions of most titles were (actually still are) legally free to download but they've been charging for new titles since last year. This is a great way to pick them up at an excellent price and support Raspberry Pi.

    • where free?

        Go here https://magpi.raspberrypi.com/books

Scroll down past the first four books (which are the newer ones for sale) and you will see the older titles with "Get PDF". Click that and it will take you to the contribution page. Scroll down to "No thanks, take me to the free PDF" and the download for that title will commence. There's still a ton of info in the older books and I would encourage you to contribute or buy the bundle if you can afford it.

        • any advice on pi 400 or pi 5 for purschasing.. which one… should I even get a Pi…? just to muck around with.. run debian like os

          • @ilove: A pi 5 with case, power supply and cables is quite expensive (compared to the older versions on their release) but is a lot of fun. Remember that it runs off a microSD card and will be slow (unless you outlay more cash). I've got about a dozen pi's from zero's though to 4's (a 3B used for arcade emulation, a 4 for a media centre plus random projects like bird call identifers etc).

Given the cost of current pi's, I've steered several people off buying one and into buying an ex-lease mini pc off eBay to play around with linux or the Raspberry Pi OS etc. You can get something like a Dell 9020 for under $100 on eBay (it may be about 8 years old but it's still a decent machine).

@ilove: Pi's are great to muck around and learn with. the pi5 is very capable as a general purpose PC, much faster than the pi4. The pi 5 can be purchased via pimoroni.co.uk quite cheaply. Places like core-electronics sell them too as well as the AUS-power cable for it.

Also they run fine on any decent micro-SD card. I added an nvme that runs pciex1 at gen3 speeds and its faster but barely noticeable imo

  • Hmmm, unsure if I wish to pay for Spanish, German, and French books. Otherwise, looks good.
