Brazil Amazon Tour

Hey guys, me and my wife is planning to travel to South America next year, arriving at Brazil for the first stop.

Planning to stay for 5 days, then travel to Colombia. Any tips and suggestions? It's our first time in South America, also my wife wanted to do the Amazon tour, any reliable suggestions on what's the best route or place to do it? Did a few research online, all suggesting to travel to Manaus.

Thanks

    • Worth watching though if you're curious how they do it so fast and cheap.

When are you planning on going? There's been a lot of fires in the Amazon (and Pantanal if you're so inclined to go there) recently so timing would be important.

I would recommend looking for a tour group to join, there's plenty of companies that do it (Intrepid, G-Adventures etc.). I was in the Amazon (except I went in from Peru) for 4 days and 3 nights, it was a good amount of time to spend in the jungle. This was in mid-December, the weather wasn't too hot.

    • Around august or september. I heard doing the amazon cruise is better in the equador or peru side, also cheaper.

      • Hmm a quick Google indicates that fire season in Brazil is usually July to September so you might want to reconsider travelling at that time. Can’t speak about the Amazon cruise.

  • I did a 5 day 4 night tour from Manaus about 10 years ago through Gero Tours. I couldn't recommend them more, picked me up from the airport, stored my luggage at the office whilst on the tour, food from memory was plentiful and tasty. Personal highlight was my final afternoon everyone else that was in my "group" had left, the guides took me to the local football field and had a game in the pouring rain with about 20 locals.

If it were me I'd be more inclined to book it through a local Brazilian company rather than a worldwide tour group, just makes you feel better about supporting a local business.

  • I hear the flights are free if you have Prime

  • Never been, wouldn't mind. But
Unless you are travelling in a tour group, I'd say do your homework & don't take risks. (Oh and I know you weren't thinking about it but, leave the hallucinogens well alone. ) Stay away from guru w*nkers in the jungle.
Maybe suss out some genuine wildlife rescue or rehab places

  • Wait for prime day sale

  • Amazon is a great choice.

I've previously taken the boat from Belem all the way up to Manaus, then flew to Tefe, and spent a week at an eco lodge.

In summary, you'll either need more time, or do a quick tour.

DM me for for info - happy to discuss and offer suggestions.
