Hey guys just wondering with the recent spike in olive oil prices this year given that we're almost at the end of the year our prices are going to come back down it seems like $20 a liter seems to be the going rate on special. Used to be able to get it for less.
Are Olive Oil Prices Going to Come Back down Anytime Soon?
Comments
The all powerful ability for our prime minister to impact the world wide olive oil price, despite our contribution to that world wide market being rather limited
Eg
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/POLVOILUSDMThat's some impressive logic
How much olive oil did the government buy to double the global price of it? Or is olive oil the new flatscreen TV, when the government hands out cash everyone switches from canola to olive oil?
our government spending like drunken sailors has no effect on inflation
Please explain how this is linked to worldwide olive oil pricing?
I await the impressive logicI'm all for pointing out idiotic government decisions, business profit gouging.
But blaming 'albo' for directly making world wide olive oil prices increase dramatically is some next level 'critical thinking'@SBOB: Personally I blame that Justin Hemmes (profanity).
@SBOB: Firstly, I never blamed Albo, Libs are just as bad.
If you believe that neoliberal governments spending like drunken sailors without concern to the enormous debts that are accruing doesn't have a massive impact on inflation, I doubt any logic will work on you.
Don’t bother mate, they can’t see it. Victoria is doing great! The federal government is doing a great job!
Just let them feel and eat the consequences of their choices, though personally I blame the greens lol.
Albos Oleaceae?
I didn't realize our prime minister is so powerful that he sets the price of olive oil in Spain. Truly impressive.
He is a global force to be reckoned with.
No. They've remained steady at my local fruit & veg shop for a while now (imported european brands), but I've noticed today that local olive oil has gone up in price again.
It's part of the WEF's Great Reset. First there's destruction of the old system, chaos, then a new order will arise. At least, that's the plan.
It's cheaper than water for a reason.
Theories/ conspiracies aside, why would they go down? Everything else is going through the roof, short of an economic collapse I don’t see it going down.
In previous years, because of production issues due to things like droughts, fires, flooding or variable weather conditions, harvests may have been poor which drove prices up for a couple of seasons, but then they came back down, which was reflected in local prices. I am talking here about imported european olive oils.
This time its different.
In addition to variable weather & harvest conditions, there are the effects of the likely manufactured "pandemic". The cost of doing business has substantially gone up. Tighter import/export regulations, red tape, the addition & cost of compliance, the surge in transport costs & other factors means society is being reshaped.
The corporations have almost completed the takeover, the separation between rich & poor will only accelerate. The middle & working classes are being eviscerated.
I think you’re being negged by rich capitalists that want the working class eviscerated…
Ozbargain seem to like being screwed over by corporations and remaining slave class. You make accurate points on our crumbling economies.
First you get the olive oil, then you get the power, then you get the women
TO THE OLIVE MOBILE!
You mean your chevy?
Yes…
I like your new phone, it makes you look sharp.
Why is olive oil so expensive right now?
A European heatwave and drought have limited Spanish and Italian producers' ability to supply olive oil to international markets, including Australia.
This has been coupled with an unusually cold and short growing season for Australian olive oil suppliers.
Dog forbid looking for an evidence base to understand what is happening.

Prices rarely come down, only ever go up. No one likes a 'pay cut'.
Prices of consumable foods arise and fall all year round. From what I understand the current olive oil prices are due to lack of supply. Once supply increases, demand will inevitably drop and prices In Turn will drop. Like all foods that are entwined in a supply and demand cycle. Same with eggs ATM and any fruit and vegetables that is either seasonal or effected by weather conditions such as flood or fire. Prices generally always normalize.
Same with eggs ATM
There's been widespread culling of chickens this year due to potential outbreaks of bird flu. Another likely manufactured crisis which has had the effect of reducing egg availability, raising prices & making life difficult for smaller farms due to increasing regulatory & compliance requirements. All under the pretext of "safety".

That they do go up and down, but generally the trend is UP not down. I used to buy bananas for 30c a kg, where are those prices!?

Doubt it, they will keep supplies limited to keep prices high!
We bought 20 EVOO litres off gumtree, I think it worked out to be about 12 dollars a litre not too bad in this day and age and nice and peppery. I think the days of fantastic Spanish oil for ten dollars a litre are over for the time being. Costco has very good Spanish olive oil but it isn't especially cheap.
Where was it made? And how?
I think it was in western Australia, made by squeezing olives
Spain has experienced drought the past two years, hence why olive oil prices have gone up. Same with coffee (although coffee prices don't seem to have gone up much I think). There have been climate catastrophes like flood, fire and drought globally the past two years and it's getting worse, I wouldn't count on them going down.
Coffee is grown in many places, the odd drought here and there will have little effect. Climate catastrophes have not been getting worse, the political use of climate catastrophes has been getting worse, that's true.
Time will tell what happens.
Still they have that good hash and lots of pretty women
How much olive all are you using?
I go through about 2L a month
Ha (profanity)
2L would last 12 months in the Paint household.
Once olive oil got too expensive i just stopped cooking.
Because eating out is so much cheaper…lol
I didn't replace it with eating out, i replaced it with toast lol
I've started making my own tallow, way better than butter and olive oil for cooking and probably better for you.
Hell yeah! Thats the solution to the economic uncertainty (and arguably, insanity).
So much stuff is so easy and so cheap to make at home. Yes it’s a little effort, but it can be done.
Local stores basically give the fat away for free on cheaper cuts of meat, although I should source some grass fed fat to avoid the hormones and crap in cheap meat.
@lew380: Good on you! Thats right, you’re making it so you know what’s in it at every stage of the process.
I buy Australian anyway. It's always been a bit dearer, but it keeps people in work and our food laws are among the best in the world, so some guarantee of quality.
Shoplift.
Hey there if anyone wants the bloke's details of where we buy the 20l drums of evoo pm me. Last time it was 220 plus 40 bucks shipping as I remember.
Definitely interested. Looking at getting about 60L.
Like what was said on TV interview today, coworths allegedly jacks the price up by 30% citing eg. poor climate then drops back down by 20% as special.
I blame the olive oil cartels!!!!!!!!! Pablo was too much of an inspiration for them…..
