  • Anyone have one of these? I'm keen to get a decent office style chair to get away from the gaming style but not spend $500

Bought one through work, very average, made for smaller framed bodies. Height adjustable base doesn't go up too far.

      • For people with long legs, all default chair gas struts are going to be too short these days. You can swap them out for a longer one though.
I've been using this one (that is out of stock lol) for about 3 years now and it's fine, I don't make adjustments often though: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B085XK494H
It goes from slightly too low to almost too high to even get onto.

I did a lot of reading on Sihoo chairs the other day, someone else linked to a youtuber called Ahnestly and I found this spreadsheet he keeps on different chairs. Handy list for pricing (in USD) and what size fits different people.

Sadly his list of chairs for people over 190cm under $400 is a single chair, the Sihoo M90D, which isn't on Amazon Australia.

You can order that direct from Sihoo. $333 delivered to Tassie, not bad : https://i.imgur.com/MyMoUYm.png

I don't understand his spreadsheet though. He's just listing them by price? I can go to Amazon and do that. Shouldn't he be listing them by quality?

@Joost: It's chairs he recommends out of all the ones he tests, based on this long video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQEkEfQs5vs

I found it useful for height, because so few chairs suit me well. That said, he's a pretty short guy compared to me, so I'm never too sure on the 190cm+ sizing. For example his titan evo review on the sm/reg/xl doesn't actually test the xl chair, he just assumes it'll be good for over 6'1".

Have a look at IKEA, ive been really happy with mine… think it was ~$250

      • Can you point out which chair? Thanks

Markus is often a highly recommended one at $249. In hindsight, I would've gotten the Markus over the JÄRVFJÄLLET. Easier to pronounce asw :))

          • @cheapasiandude: Why do you think you would prefer the Markus?

            • +2

@harvestloon: I have the jallet, seat is really uncomfortable. I wound up buying a cushion for it to be bearable for long periods of time.

            • +1

@harvestloon: I have 2 Markus chairs, one about 10 years old, and find them to be comfortable and hard wearing. My only criticism is that the castors are not very good - they size up after a while. I've replaced one of them with wheels that I got from Amazon.

          • +4

@cheapasiandude: I got the Markus, would not recommend. If you work from home at least some of the time do yourself a favour and don't cheap out on an office chair.

      • Ikea chairs are too high even on the lowest setting 🥲

      • I feel like surprising number of Ikea chairs sold secondhand on Marketplace and Gumtree in my area, is indication they're not well enjoyed…

    • That's easy, jump into your time machine and go back ~20 years, then maybe you can buy a decent office chair for $500

I had back pain for several weeks after spending only a couple of hours in this chair. My wife didn't like it either, had to sell it.
Definitely not for everyone, try before you buy!

    • Have an M57 for WFH duties for over a year now. Right from the start from brand new there is play in the gas strut which is exacerbated when it extends higher. Was told that this is normal and within tolerance levels for ergonomic chairs. I personally wouldn't buy another one. I'd probably get a used herman miller aeron next.

Looks quite a lot like the Ergoduke chairs.
