Domain Vs Realestate.com.au

Title says it all.

Which site do you prefer and why?

Their advertising fees are simply extortion and there's really no other choices out there. But which one do you think is the lesser of the two evils?

Personally, I default to realestate.com.au. The website feels slightly cleaner and user friendly.

Realestate.com.au just seems like a better laid out, less messy site.

    • Plus RE.com.au lets you filter by block size

I put in 4000m+ and it still shows some apartments, stupid thing.

    It depends.

For selling - Domain uploads properties quickly and their fees are super reasonable. They have less issues atm with link sharing. RE is a total rip off, slow to upload.

For buying - permanent search functionality in both has issues. Domains mobile app search functionality does break occasionally. RE has no capacity for more nuanced searching despite the cost for listing, relying on agent descriptions.

    Personally I use both.

    • I've never sold a property, but does RE provide any info on clicks, converts to visits, etc? I know domain traffic is about a quarter of RE, but I dunno how well it converts as well.

The problem is that when you're talking about a 6-7 figure house, hitting 3-4 times as many eyeballs is worth the few grand, sadly.

Yes they both do and you would realisticly do both. For the few hundred for Domain, plus the SM and REA platforms actually are comparable in overall traffic wth RE.com (has been my experience).

    • Whats the cost to list a sale on real estate.com? Can you pay per listing or do you need the annual subsription?

      • Its per listing based on your postcode. Fancier the postcode, the more expensive. In metro areas its a min of $3-5k

here's a hack. if you are looking to list a rental property for lease, then go to rentbetter.com.au - they allow you to list on both Domain and RealEstate for a one-off fee of $199. RentBetter then posts your listing under RentBetter's Domain and RealEstate account.

  • Their advertising fees are simply extortion and there's really no other choices out there.

But domain is literally less than half the cost of realestate…or even less IIRC. So just go with domain if you find it too expensive o list on both.

And there are choices out there, but others get almost zero eyeballs. So its like paying for advertising to get no viewership…so its not the fault of the 2 websites, its just no one wants to go look at website 3 or 4 for property when they just want to go to site 1/2

if you are buying check property.com.au for additional details on the property

  • Realestate.com.au is almost the 'entire' market the other players just overlap with them - it is a bit like Seek.com.au for jobs ads sure some jobs can be found elsewhere but 95% end up on seek

95% of rentals, house sales etc end up on realestate.com.au

Actually think it is a good thing give VR a decade more or so and at some point we will be able to get rid of the RE and just sign up to realestate.com.au avoiding the commision

  • Domain all the way it is more woke.
