What's Your Strategy to Snag a Ps5 Pro 30 Year Anniversary Edition?

With only 12300 units being sold world wide I assume Australia will get 500 units if we are lucky.
So what's your strategy to get one before the few available are sold to scalpers?

not ask on a bargain forum

    Waiting for 50th anniversary edition

  • +8

don't tell anyone my plan, but im going to go in store, ask for a ps5 pro anniversary edition, then purchase with card, then go home and play with myself. :)

^ this. Except I’ll be doing that last part skipping all other steps before it 😏

    • This except my strategy involves pretending that it’s 2017 and I’ve just lost the Evian water contract

      PS any deals on mouthwash?

  • Just wear grey tinted sunglasses and get a regular white PS5. Change your ringtone to the PS1 boot up sound.

  • My strategy is to just be winning and buy it.

I’d just go in knowing numbers are limited and to not be overly disappointed.

After a quick search, you can spreypaint the panels. If you’re super dedicated you could buy the controller then spray paint the panels, or wait for someone to put 30th edition replicas online. e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/playstation/comments/m9wzov/i_decid…

    • This is exactly what I thought. People will start making their own replicas. And won't be surprised if they start selling custom made covers for the console and modified controllers on Etzy. E.G (not affiliate): https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1241285846/retro-playstation…

It’s also the centre black strip that’s grey, not just the clip on covers. (As well as a badge)

  • +10

By not giving a shit and going about my life without the need to ZOMG over a gaming console that has a few subtle cosmetic differences.

Buy a regular PS5 Pro and a can of grey undercoat and some masking tape.

When I was a kid my dad told me it was stupid to trade in my perfectly functional N64 to buy the Pokemon colored N64. I understand where he was coming from after reading this post

    • +1

Well for purely economic and functional reasons yes. These are called collectors editions for a very special reason because of that. Nowadays with the consumerism and advertising on the rise, it is purely for entire different reasons…

    • -1

The Pikachu themed N64 is worth hundreds more than the regular one today. Your dad should have let you trade towards the special one you wanted.

      • +8

Absolute garbage. I have a N64 Pokémon edition, still in the box. Original everything and was only taken out of the box and played a few times. It still has the sticker on the box from Harvey Norman for $199. If I were to try and sell it, I would realistically get about $200 to $300 for it, and this doesn’t even cover inflation.

Just because you see drug addicts listing these “limited edition” consoles advertised for $4,990 on eBay, doesn’t mean they are selling for that price.

I have heaps of old games and old consoles, all in their original boxes, and even some games still wrapped in factory plastic, never opened, and I see them advertised for stupid prices, but when you go to try and sell them, you soon work out that these prices are bullshit, and what you actually get offered is about what you paid for it 15 or 20 years ago.

Get a limited edition console because you want it, not because you think it is some super rare investment opportunity… because the price you get offered for it in the years to come won’t even cover inflation.

    • A portion of people will be upgrading to the Pro model, so it isn’t just purely cosmetic.

      • I hadn't considered that

  • +2

Reconsider my life choices and settle on buying the controller.

  • Strategy?
    1) Not be a hive drone and be an individual (avoid FOMO like a grown up)
    2) Hold out for the second manufacturing run when they plummet in price (and all the bugs are fixed) and they practically give them away
    3) Get the 4 others I got at the same time, and flog them to FOMO drones, as limited editions
    4) Meh. Won't bother

    • +2

That's not gonna happen. Nice try but once they're sold out, that's it.

      • -3

Kept a copy of your prediction.

        • +3

You’re saying the PS4 anniversary edition which was also limited to 12,300 units worldwide had a second manufacturing run?
          I call bullshit.

        • You don't know what you're talking about. They already did this for the 20th anniversary and sold the same number (12,300) of limited edition PS4 colours in retro colours. They didn't make a second run, and those ones have SOLD for 4-6x RRP.

          • -1

@SydStrand: Thanks for the expert inner knowledge. So pretty much money in the bank? Crypto of the gaming world, eh ? I'll be watching with interest as ppl keep whinging about the price of bread, while simultaneously clutching one..

            • +3

@Protractor: This isn't a cost of living or crypto debate; stop shifting goalposts, and stick to your losing argument. You claimed, with confidence but no evidence, that this will get a second run that would devalue the initial ones. This is historically untrue. Let's just leave it there, so you can continue sticking your beak into every thread. Also, weren't you banned?

              • -1

@SydStrand: LOL. Leave it there? and then you start beating your pigeon chest like a pseudo chalk monitor, come silver back? Banned? Your turn, Magilla. Show me where.

BTW I beg to differ. There'll be dozens of cost of living whingers demanding hand outs while having wasted real money on bling like this. FOMO is a thing.
Looking at your comments also shows your beak gets a fair workout.

                This you>?

Um, what? This is cooked behaviour. No rebuttal. Just 5.5k comments in 18 months. Clearly someone with fulfilling hobbies.

  • Has anyone tried calling local retailers or walking in to place a deposit? I would try but currently overseas.

  • my goodness the fishing is great in here today!!!!!!!

I plan to buy 5 and then sell them to idiots.

  • RAL 7047 is the original paint code. Thank me later when you save your time and money

  • to not, it's only available in a bundle with all the items and the premium will be insane. id never pay for a regular edge controllers, let alone being forced to get one in a bundle. such a rip…

more importantly, i figure it'll take about 5minutes for someone to make knockoff covers available. i've never liked the default white, but also never liked the idea of paying more money for another colour. however, a decent cover set in the 30th anniversary styling and i'd potentially waste $100 or so.

Jbhifi have a ballot opening tomorrow

    • Sounds like a competition!

    • Note: Perks Membership Required

      • I’ve been wondering if EB will use this to push paid EB World Plus memberships.

        • For sure. The cheapest subscription which is $25 for 3 months is offset by the $25 discount off the trade-in value with an EB Plus membership, not to mention you get double carrots towards the next EB World level so why not.

    • Did you get this email ? I didnt

      • Yes I got it yesterday

        • The link to the ballot? Or just advising of it ?

  • I didn't even see a page come up for any 30th Anniversary consoles, other than the slim on amazon at 10.03am which was sold out already lol

    • Gone at both Big W and Amazon AU.

  • 3 already on ebay for $4k, 1.9k and 1.7k

    • Where are you seeing the pro bundle for 1.9k/1.7k? Link?

      • Couldn't edit my comment cos you replied, the 1.9 and 1.7 was for the slim

    • +2

      Assholes

    • Looked on gumtree saw nothing and thought the world came back to normality…..then I opened eBay lol insane price for a non pro ps5.

  • So for those wanting the 30th anniversary pro bundle (the good one)

    • eb games sold out in less than 2 minutes and only ever opened it to level 5 members in the first place.

    • jb Hi-Fi is running a ballot for perks members but drawn next week but haven’t shared the entry link yet.

No one else (bigw, Amazon, etc) is selling the 30th ann pro bundle.

    • Fingers crossed I get one in the ballot! If not at least I have the standard pro secured. The 30th edition is actually not as expensive as I thought it would be at 1649.

      • Yeah no rush for the standard pro as it will get cheaper over time. Really wanted that 30th bundle, haven’t seen any ballot link or warning emails from JB though so no idea how to get in the ballot

        • They haven't sent out the email with the ballot link. The previous email just stated they will send out an email but not when.

          • @Immer besser: I didn’t even get the previous email. Zero communication and I am a perks member…

            • @evasive: Just got the ballot link now, but the link doesn't work

    • Thanks

    • Ooh thanks for this. No idea why I entered for the big one but hoping for the Dualsense edge.

      • I got selected for the 30th Ed Dualsense. Emails for the ballot went out yesterday.

        • Wow congrats haha. I didn't get selected on any oh well.

  • I’m sure I’ll end up getting selected solely because I have no budget for it and my wife would not believe a game console is worth AUD $1.6k

    • +1

well considering a few already sold on ebay for $4-4.5k, makes it a pretty easy convincing.

would suspect the pro bundle quantity for AU is less than 100 honestly. better off with lottery tickets.

  • I tried getting the slim 30th version from BigW and EBgames . Went to pay, all details entered, got to the address and it couldn’t find my suburb (Southport). No idea why.

Just saw an article saying that Sony in Japan have instituted a system where you pre-order your 30th anniversary console using your PSN account. There's a restriction on there where you can only order if you have 30+ hours played on PS4/PS5 under that account since 2014.

That is a good idea - the limit isn't exactly demanding (I'm sure anyone who is a big enough PlayStation fan to order one of these would have played a hell of a lot more than that), but it's enough to lock out a lot of the bots, scalpers etc since you can't just create a bunch of new dummy accounts and register. If it works well for this, I hope all console manufacturers institute a similar system for future console launches.
