Seeking Advice on Affordable Earbuds for Teenager Kids

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on purchasing affordable earbuds for my teenage kids. I’ve been browsing options on AliExpress and noticed brands like Lenovo offering some budget-friendly models. However, I’m a bit unsure about their quality and durability.

Has anyone here bought cheap earbuds from AliExpress, particularly from brands like Lenovo? If so, how has your experience been in terms of:

Sound Quality: Are they good enough for everyday use?
Durability: Do they hold up well over time?
Comfort: Are they comfortable for extended wear?
Battery Life: How long do they typically last on a single charge?
Features: Do they have reliable Bluetooth connectivity and other useful features?
Safety: battery doesn't explode in the ear :)

Any specific models you would recommend or advise against? I’d appreciate any insights or personal experiences you can share.

I see some Lenovo models going for US 5.00'ish but a bit sceptical to commit to a potentially unsafe device due to my lack of knowledge (in the absence of advice).

Thanks in advance!

You don't want to commit to something that costs $8?

      OP should ask Google…Obviously

  • Your kids are going to lose them soon. Just go with the Lenovo ones. Check reviews first.

    • They’ve been using Sony 700 wireless over-ear (a few years old), a wired Razer gaming over-ear headset, and a pair of Philips earbuds from Costco. Unfortunately, none of these are working anymore, and they need new ones.

I’m hesitant to invest in new Sony, Apple, or Samsung earbuds (they want earbuds not over ear) unless I can be sure they’re worth the tag. Probably worth's for enthusiasts. If the experience here suggests cheap stuff is okay I can buy that with peace of mind.

What are they connecting to? If a phone, just get wired ones. The “retro” look is back

    • Phones and laptops for homework etc.

    Cheap, quality and durability.

    Pick two….

I see some Lenovo models going for US 5.00'ish but a bit sceptical to commit before some expert advice.

Better have a chat to the accountant before you spend $8 Aussie dollars on them.

    Why not just YOLO them?

Since you're asking about earphones for your kids/teenagers, you may also consider setting volume limits on their devices - check out this article - https://www.theverge.com/23729051/ios-android-samsung-phone-…

Noise-cancelling earbuds/headphones reduce the need to crank up the volume in loud environments, which may offer some level of protection against hearing loss.

How much are you looking to spend? Anker is a pretty reliable brand

    Or pick one of these

    • $50 may be but most of my budgets are flexible and value-based.

  • What are your concerns in relation to safety?

Never heard of an earbud/earbud case catching fire. Lenovo is well known in other products like laptops and chargers anyway so it'll be fine. Any of the following budget brands are ok (but not limited to). Most of them can be had for under $50, as for reliability it's pretty hard to destroy a set unless you really suck at keeping electronics in good condition.

        QCY
        Soundpeats
        Edifier
        Soundcore (by Anker)
        Xiaomi
        Moondrop
        Lenovo

  • Are these Lenovo earbuds sold on AliExpress genuine? Just asking as these are sold in plastic seal bags and also so many fake Xiaomi abundant on AliExpress. I know about store seller ratings choice etc, but a lot of sellers claim they are 'official' storefronts.

Not sure on that. Would rather just grab a cheap set from Amazon for $30. If it isn't good just return it.

I have the $16 Anker ones from Amazon Black Friday last year. Great ANC. Normal price is like $49 or something.

Just get them ones from Kmart.

    • Second this, my twin boys have been happy with Kmart or BigW ones throughout high school. At $25 they are within your budget and will work fine

  • I use Soundcore space a40, Soundcore had sale recently. Excellent

  • I bought some anker A20i from Amazon a year ago for about $25, I wanted a second cheap set for travelling/walking etc in case I lose/drop one. But really impressed with them, great sound quality. My main set are pixel bud pros, which are only fractionally better for a lot more money.

  • I got that for my teenager $36 for great sound, most cancelling, touch controls, and look cool too

  • I have had 3 different types of Lenovo ones from Ali - all under $10AU and all quite good
    Mic quality avg at best
SOund quality quite good but minimal / no ANC
All 3 pairs lasting fine >1yr use
SOn bought a pair of apple - broke one earbud in week 3
