Intermittency Issue with Earbuds

Hi, I have a Samsung A70 phone, and I have tried using some Bluetooth Earbuds from different brands.

I had a Dudios Bluetooth 5.0 wireless earbuds that I bought from Amazon. At the beginning they were very good but then (after 6 months or so) they started to have issues pairing with each other, and after that stated showing intermittency issues, that will drop off saying not connected and then connecting back just annoying.

Then I tried the Kosseton E10 and it was basically the same, lower quality than the Dudios, and the intermittency and pairing issues showed up pretty quickly. Since then, I used wired headphones with no issues other than the fact that I keep breaking them as I get tangled with the cables.

Now I bought a $15 Kmart Anko earbuds for the kids to use, and I decided to try them. They look good but the intermittency issue is there very often and since day 1. Funny enough it seems like the earbuds work better if my phone is in my left pocket. It feels like the Bluetooth loses connection because they are too far apart even though the phone is in my hand.

I stream sound through Bluetooth to my JBL speakers with no issues whatsoever. Even in the cheap Bluetooth speakers the kids use there is no intermittency issue.

Does anyone know what can be causing this issue? Is it just crappy earbuds? Any chance that could be something with my phone?

Any ideas welcome
Thanks

Disclaimer: I know I bought cheap earbuds, but the cheap speaker works with no issues…

Have you tried all these items with a different phone or other Bluetooth device? Seems like a logical first troubleshooting step.

I've got an imagine in my head of you fumbling them in an informercial for wireless headphones.

Likely the phone is the issue and signal strength, a bluetooth speaker can fit a much bigger antenna. Or there is interference, do you have a bluetooth watch or anything like that? Could try disconnecting it from other things first. Then checking what version it's connecting on with bluetooth and whether you're using 2.4ghz wifi (might cause issues?)

Either that or your body is full of metal, you don't happen to have metal claws that slide out of your hands, do you?

    • Actually after some digging it seems like is an issue with the Samsung A series with Bluetooth connection issues. I have tried an iPhone today and there is no problems at all. To be honest it pisses me a little.
I do have a smartwatch. I'll try to use the buds while I am not wearing the watch and see how I go.
Thanks for your comment very insightful

Your phone. (or maybe your head is too wide)

I have an old pair of Bluetooth headphones(cheapies from aliexpress) which have been daily used for the last 2 years that will give the verbal "disconnect" followed a few seconds later with "reconnect" when the battery is low. If i fully charge them then ill get about 6 hours out them before getting those warnings every 5 minutes or so.

So for you, maybe a weak battery in one of the earphones that causes a disconnect?

    • Thanks.
In the phone I can see that the battery is 80%, but not sure how reliable is the battery reading

    • a weak battery in one of the earphones that causes a disconnect?

yes as someone who has had a few cheaper end ($30-$40) Amazon TWS earpods this is probably it.

also cheaper TWS will reduce the power to the BT antennae to achieve decent battery life of 6 hours or so as you said. so their overall wireless range tends to be less than more expensive hundred dollar earpod.

This is how far we've evolved. We made earphones that don't work and then they started removing the option for wired earphones.

I feel like your issue is buying cheap/crappy wireless earbuds with an older version of Bluetooth. I used Galaxy Buds (and Galaxy Buds 2) for 3-4 years and don't have any intermittency issues.

I used to use cheaper brands like soundPeats and they worked ok but definitely had more cut-outs and worse battery life than my better earbuds.

Try to restart the phone, turn off and turn on the earbuds too.

Next time check scarbir website before choosing earbuds.

    • Thanks this is really good. I did not know that website existed

return them. it’s likely poor quality of the battery in the buds. buy something else.

FYI my experience with cheaper ones with decent reviews from Amazon is adequate. they handle L+R connection with no problem.

walk away from your phone though and they won’t get much further than 2 walls ( audio on both will get interrupted and drop out).

I have a pair that’s getting old though and occasionally L+R will alternate drop outs at short distances.

also an extra tip charge them straight after unboxing and try not to drain the buds or case down to empty regularly. the tiny batteries in these don’t last long to begin with and you will kill one of the buds or the case quickly if you drain it until it switches off regularly.

here’s a pair I would consider if I needed one right now. deal is over but price might come back. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/861094
