Seems like quite a few stores have it for this price, not just Amazon but looks to be near the cheapest that it has ever been. I've been looking at a few cameras and came across the A7CII but still out of my budget. Looks to be a great hybrid camera. This is body only, you'll need to buy lenses if you don't own any already.

Additional stores below if you don't like Amazon though you might be able to get cashback/use gift cards on their site.

couple big con about this camera.
    1, single SD card slot
    2, no front curtin shutter
    3, 4k60 is 1.5 crop
    4, micro HDMI port
    5, missing a joystick
6, EVF and display resolution and brightness is just meh at best compare to the same generation cameras from other brand.

but still i absolutely love mine if you know exactly what camera you after.
for full frame and this size, there truly isnt too many options, it is literally for travel and not work.

For travel, I don't see much difference between a slightly smaller camera like this, and a slightly bigger camera like an A7 series. It's still too big to put in a pocket. Still got to go around your neck or hang heavily from your wrist, or in a bag.

I realised (after a very long time), that photography was killing my enjoyment of travel. I spent so much time focusing on getting good shots that I didn't really relax and enjoy the destinations. Even when I didn't have the camera out, I was constantly thinking about whether what I was looking at would make a good photo. So, I sold my camera and haven't looked back. Phone is good enough (sometimes better). And the reality is, unless you plan to make money from it, you don't really need to take photos anyway. Time seems to go more slowly without photography.

Sorry to hear that camera does not bring you joy while traveling, mine did. As you have mentioned it wasn’t the camera but your state of mind when you have a camera around, but somehow that state of mind gone when you only have a phone, maybe it is something to reconsider why so?

Anyway, camera is just a tool, I like to have one with me when traveling, even a small APS-C camera is good enough. I don’t just shoot, but sort out what I like and print either to hang on wall or put in album. I really don’t like what phone does to my photos with all the mandatory processing and computational photography, felt un-natural on prints.

Edit - By the way, enjoy first, shoot later.

For me personally, having a camera while I'm travelling makes me slow down and stop to try and actually appreciate the views and the beauty of where I am.
I enjoy trying to capture the scene, but I agree that there are definitely times where I need to put the camera away and just enjoy the moment.

I'd probably pull the trigger at 2k if the time ever comes

  • Bought it one month ago with about $1800. Not sure what happened to Sony price match. Another retailer sells it for $2599, then I asked for a pm at Sony Australia. They give me a price of $2089 and 10% discount coupon (I did not notice the email they sent to me, and I missed the coupon. Sigh!). With 10% cash reward, the final price is about $1800. It could be nicer if I used the 10% coupon, and the price should be about $1650.

Are you saying instead of price matching, Sony went even further and beat it by $510? That sounds unusual.

      • Yes, they did.

        • Definitely a mistake on their part, you got lucky

          • @qvinto: That seems crazy given that Sony have only discounted the price by $200 since it was launched. It's on their website now for $3200 so I don't know why they would possibly sell it at $2089…

Usually these retail/customer service systems are hardcoded to a lowest possible price too, no? The typical retail margins on electronics are a lot lower than what this comment implies - that would have to be below the cost price they sell to retailers, and there is just no reason to do that.

The coupon might void the cashback tho - https://www.cashrewards.com.au/store/sony

    • they disable the apply coupon box when you price match. well they did for me, so you can only get the cashback

    • im looking to price match as well - but how did you get the cashreward to work? as they automatically add it to your cart after the price match

  • Any recommendations on lenses?

My friend loves the 50mm F2.5 G and the image quality is excellent for a compact lens. The 24-50 F2.8 G wasn't available at that time, so that would be the best pick at the moment for a compact travel setup imo.
