Hills Garden Hoses - Any Good?

Hi guys, any experience with the Hills garden hoses? Looking at the Iconic ($50) or Heritage ($78) Garden Hoses as options from Amazon.

The alternative is Pope Handy Garden Hose ($35) from Bunnings, or the Hoselink Superflex Garden Hose ($100).

Hose lays flat on the ground in a shaded area.

I'm using Hoselink hose fittings.

  • Hoselink. Stick with them.

  • If you rate kink resistance: Hills Iconic 6, -Heritage 8, -Premium 10; Pope Handy 3, Pope Pinnacle 10, Hoselink Superflex 9, Gardena HighFLEX 9, Nylex Flextreme 10. Go with Hoselink as you'll get more of their excellent fittings.

  • My hose enjoy laying flat on the garden too but they like it in the sun to get their vitamin d.

  • I purchased this hose - Pope 12mm x 15m TR True Blue Garden Hose $14.89 (Was $29.98) + Del ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ OnePass with $80 Online Order) @ Bunnings in February 2023. Hose is coiled in moderately sunny area, so tries to get kinky sometimes. Has been exceptional for $15. (I'm not paying $100 for a hose)

  • Screw Amazon. Buy at the big green shed, or better still support an aussie online business and stick with hoselink.

  • its just a hose, doesnt require posts across multiple forums…

Aldi will have a hose for sale on 28 Sept, looks pretty good value for a 30m hose https://www.aldi.com.au/special-buys/special-buys-wed-25-sep…

    • Nope. Bought that one a year ago. "Resistant to kinking" is only 'cause it's annoyingly stiff below about 17°C, and below about 5°C it's so hard it's brittle so when you do kink it it cracks.

Oh, and it reeks of PVC plasticiser.. after 12 months! The first hose-full of water to come out of it is all chemically and foamy from whatever is leaching out.

Time to see if that 20 year warranty is any good..

Aldi had a different one recently, more rubbery-feeling and green or blue opaque casing. That might be better.

      • ah, well, scratch that idea. I actually bought the other Aldi one a few weeks ago, early days though. Beats the 20+ year one full of pin holes that I had but thats as much as I can say. its a hose, water comes out the end its meant to come out.

  • Esdan hoses are made in Australia, they sell direct and through their ebay store in short lengths, reels and with and without fittings.

The Super Uniflex is an air hose that will outperform and outlast anything from Bunnings, it has the perfect balance of suppleness and anti-kink, 12mm internal diameter will fit standard hose fittings. They also sell garden hoses in 12mm and 19mm.

Don't buy crap hose from overseas or through some middleman like everything from Bunnings, buy direct from an Australian manufacturer. I don't know enough about Hoselink, but I assume they buy from a manufacturer like Esdan and then resell to consumers with a high markup.
