Qantas Reward Booking - Darwin to Adelaide

I'm looking at a Qantas Reward Booking for December.

There was a direct flight to Adelaide for 18,000 points. Then it wasn't available. Then it was again. Now I have enough points to book the only flights I can get are 12am flights via Brisbane or Melbourne.

Does anyone know the chance of the direct flights becoming available again as Rewards Bookings?

Or should I just go ahead and book the flight with one stop over and travel for over 12 hours?

***UPDATE- so I kept checking the dates over and over again. Then today a Jetstar flight the day after the date I wanted came up for only 14,400 points. I grabbed it.
Thanks for the tips everyone.

  • If you put in a starting location it would give some context…

    • Sorry the trip is Darwin to Adelaide

It's possible but very hard to judge when it might become available again - could be last-minute or when someone cancels their existing booking.

If you're flexible and happy to pay change fees, you could lock in the current option and if the direct becomes available, change over for 5,000 pts per person fee.

A bit late for that now…

  • It depends when in December. 3rd Dec you have a chance. 23rd Dec no chance.

  • Is this 18k points one way?

    • Yes, that's for one way on Jetstar. The direct flight on Jetstar was also 18k points

  • Adelaide has a curfew, so I presume you know you’ll be in Melbourne or wherever overnight.

If there’s awards the next day probably better to wait. Or depending on price, just pay cash for non reward direct tbh
