Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 Black $194 + $5 Delivery @ The Good Guys eBay

80

Excludes QLD Far North and WA Remote.

These buds need no introduction, but here are a few key points to consider:

  • The best earbuds for bass. and one of the best sounding premium earbuds.
  • Many reviewers claim these sound identical to the newer TW4, and there are no physical differences, only a few technical improvements under the hood.
  • Unfortunately, these have a higher than average failure rate, but they come with a 2-year manufacturer warranty and TGG is fairly easy to deal with, so hopefully, that will help if something goes wrong.
  • At this price its currently the cheapest premium buds you can buy, even cheaper than mid range offerings like the Nothing Ears.

  • ALL TIME LOW ??

    • Probably, the cheapest previous posts I could find were at $199 delivered.

  • These any good for running?

    • They are pretty chunky so may fall out while running

      • They have little ear wing things that grip into the ear which stop them falling out, much better than the airpod pros I now have, still the failure rate on these is too high though

As stated in OP failure rate is high. Had a pair that seemed the goods after 18 months with light to medium usage then suddenly one earbud stopped changing. Keep proof of purchase handy to warranty claim

Was about to pull the trigger but the failure rate of these things look horrible

Failure rate on these is too high, replaced them multiple times before refunding them.

    • Yes, I’ve seen all the reports. But at this price, I’m willing to take on the risk and the hassle. I’ve had a pair of Sony WF-1000XM3s die on me after two years, and a cheaper pair of Sony XB400s fail after a year. If these last me the warranty period which is 2 years, that’s good enough for me.

Lossless encoding is a fairly big technical improvement at either end of the frequency spectrum and during busy passages if you have a Qualcomm chipset capable of it, but ANC and tonal balance have also improved.

Yes it's the same driver, but Sennheiser - even in this new form for the consumer branch - have a long history of refining how the driver is tuned and enclosed to improve performance.

Given the current pricing of the Galaxy Buds2 Pro and the Creative Aurvana Ace 2, this deal is a hard sell.

On paper, perhaps, but I wonder how many people can actually hear or appreciate a difference under everyday listening conditions. Not me, as I don’t consider myself an 'audiophile,' and most of my audio sources are already compressed.

I’m a bit of a bass head, and I’ve read a lot of reviews. TW3 (and more recently TW4) are the only two earbuds that consistently come out on top for clean deep sub bass. That’s the main reason I got these.

Yeah if you're not even bothering with something like Tidal to make it happen, you're not really going to hear it, are you. That's an odd position to take in 2024 with Tidal pricing as it is.

That's a fair critique that puts the TW3 and TW4 towards the top of your preference list, but the reason for these giant price drops is we're about to see a huge step up through not just lossless bluetooth codecs, but also through a big step forward in ANC, voice quality, and the driver tech being used (a key one being xMEMS Cypress, planar is also going mainstream for TWS).

Less compressed audio will add resolution and crispness as well.

  • Failure rate is damn high for MTW3 among all the generation.
If you were fine with going through RMA a few times, they may eventually replace you a MTW4.
In the end, you may get MTW4 for this price plus back and forth RMA delivery costs.

  • I think i got lucky cause I am using a pair while I'm writing this and i bought em around 3 years ago. Before that i had the Sony high end buds and the Huawei ear buds. Both weren't as good as the MTW3.
Side note- I had tidal until the international bank account crackdown and going back to muddy sounding old Spotify made my ears cry…. (May been an infection)

  • OP here,
I received mine, and what do you know…the left earbud is DOA!?!?! I had the buds in the case on the charger for about 45 minutes; the right one and the case went from around 45% to 100%, but the left one is stuck at 10% and won’t turn on. When I put the left one in the case, the case blinks amber for a few seconds. However, the bud itself won’t respond to touch, the LED doesn’t blink, and, of course there’s no sound coming out. Tried resetting them, but that didn’t help either. Anyway, I’ve seen this exact issue reported online, so not going to bother with it too much. I’ve already called TGG online support, they agreed to issue a full refund without any fuss. I’ll be dropping these off at my local TGG store, which is only 10 minutes away.

But despite the setback, I’m inclined to order another one because I’ve owned a few earbuds in the past, but I wasn’t satisfied with the bass. And these surprisingly fit well in my ears, which hasn’t been the case with some of my previous buds and ear phones. I can also see a fair few reporting their MTW3s have been working fine, considering there is always a negativity bias with user feedback I don’t think all of them are bad or will go bad. I’d think Sennheiser would have pulled this already if the failure rate is even as bad as 25%, yet lot of the popular retailers like HN, JB, and even Telstra are still selling it for twice as much at $399.

In the worst case I’ll get another dud, which I can return for a full refund.

    • UPDATE: I returned the buds to my local store and got a full refund. I’ll think this over, but most likely order another pair tonight.

Another Update: I just received the second pair, and this time both buds are working out of the box. LOL, talk about setting the bar too low!

I updated the firmware and used the sound personalization feature to fine-tune them. After a bit of tweaking, they sound really good. The first pair didn't suggest a firmware update, ad they had lower charge out of the box (30% buds , 10% case) so guessing these are from an older / different batch. Anyhow, I'm surprised by how clean the bass is, even at low volumes. These are the best buds I've listened to so far. I'm quite happy with the sound, which is my number one priority. That’s why I ordered a second pair despite the known high failure rate and receiving a dud the first time around. Keeping my fingers crossed these will last a while!
