How Small Have Coles Pizza Rolls Gotten Lately?

Anyone else notice that Coles have reduced the size of their Hawaiian and BBQ cheese and bacon pizza rolls in the past month or two?

Those things use to be quite sizeable. Now it's small enough that you'd be lucky to get 3 or 4 pieces of pineapple on the Hawaiian one.

Talk about shrinkflation being quite literal!

I found the Woolies ones still pretty alright after being disappointed by the Cole’s ones

    • Unfortunately, my local woolies only offer cheese and bacon… no Hawaiian or BBQ cheese and bacon variety like Coles do.

That and I've been doing the 4 weeks of shops for 10k flybuy points lately and only Coles is near my workplace.

In saying that, the 4 week shops are up to $80 now… I've had a bit more to buy lately (things for new house) so didn't mind doing this round but will probably skip the next round to bring the weekly spend back down to $50.

Might end up going to Woolies more over the next month or two.

my local woolies usually sells out of the hawaiian ones very early every morning

I will admit, it's been a while since I've been to Woolies in the morning.

Wife and I use to grab a Zarraffas coffee every weekend and for a while, I'd just duck into the Woolies next door to grab ham and cheese croissants for her and what I felt like for myself. Don't remember seeing the Hawaiian ones then so I usually get the cheese and chives triangles (which have now also stopped being sold at all the Woolies I've been to).

The Zarraffas has now closed down so there's no real reason for me to go that set of shops that early anymore. The green grocer there is 24/7 and if I need to go to the Woolies too, I tend to go after dinner when carparks are plentiful. And when I go get breakfast on weekends for us, I go in the opposite direction to a bakery that does $7 banh mi.

      • Oh that sucks, my local does hawaiian, pepperoni and meatlovers, although sometimes they do sell out

        • Yikes! Pepperoni and meatlovers too! I feel like I've got a dud Woolies.

They do sell good quality tofu though. I'm wondering if it's because of the high asian population in the area that they've got good tofu but have a limited pizza rolls assortment? - lol

  • Yeah Woolies ones are better, they have been stingy on the sauce lately at my local, still better than the coles ones though

  • shrinkflation brutha

  • been on the decline for many years… 2016-2017 we had peak coles bakery pizza roll with sufficient toppings
another thing we lost in the pandemic

Very obvious shrinkification from Coles. With the Woolies stores near me, while the bread size remains the same, the toppings have reduced. Eg. The bacon bits are about a quarter of the previous size

Yeah, I've picked up the odd cheese and bacon roll from Woolies in the past 3 months and the bacon bits are barely there to justify it being called a cheese and bacon roll.

I now just go to the bakery where my PO Box is and get a $7 banh mi where the fillings are plentiful and probably healthier for me too.

  • I gave up on my local Pizza shop for the same reason, way too little toppings.

  • that you'd be lucky to get 3 or 4 pieces of pineapple on the Hawaiian one.

Feels like it's been that way for years at our 'local'. Plus it is all piled into the middle, so more of a roll with a pizza droplet in the middle.

    • It use to be mostly piled into the middle for me too but there was at least 8-10 pieces of pineapple and one of two pieces would be off center.

  • I haven't seen them lately, you should've taken a photo to show us. The way you describe it makes it sound like they're the size of a KFC dinner roll which definitely would be a big reduction in size.

  • I though the same. They seem more denser, I wonder if they aren't proofing them long enough before baking.

  • I've noticed their tear and share has gotten more thicker with less toppings.
