    Vodafone is bad in Melbourne

    • Depends on location. I used to live in West Melbourne and CBD. I used to stay short term in East Melbourne too. But yeah usually Vodafone is not good in Basement area (no signal) for example.

Phone with plastic case in general has better signal reception (include wifi) than metal case. Keep this in mind. I have experience for this, compared my android phone with iphone years ago when I was in Melbourne.

Inner Geelong it’s great, inner Melb it’s great

Where in Melb are you generalising about?

      • +3

Yeah I have travelled to Geelong too in the past. Also Ballarat, Bendigo, Castlemaine too. No problem with Vodafone.

    • +3

Best out of the three for me in the northern suburbs.

Everyone thinking they're bad means a less congested tower I think. I see less than 100mbps on Telstra and Optus in the same area. Uploads are always under 10 as well.

    • South Yarra here, works perfectly for me and in most areas I travel to.
Works better than Telstra along the Yarra near St Georges Rd and Grange Rd, which Telstra barely has reception.

    • +1

      Vodafone works perfect for me.

  • Waiting for Costco deal

    • What’s this mythical Costco deal you talk about?

      • $99 Black Friday with international minutes

        • -1

Never seen or heard of this beast, is it Vodafail or Floptus?

      • just search for "vodafone 240 costco"

        • -1

Oh that’s why I haven’t heard of it, Vodafail!

  • At home, I can only get voda reception in front room and not in my backyard or any other room. Melb west

    • +3

I wouldn’t recommend this deal for you.

    • +1

Use wifi calling at home if your phone supports it

    • In your case, maybe you should try Amaysim/Optus or Boost Mobile (Telstra).

I used to live in Caroline Springs, very far from CBD. No problem with Vodafone, except in basements anywhere.

  • -4

Oh wait, it's data only :(

    • +1

Not only data. Calls and sms are also included.

  • +4

Note - you can also use your Everyday Extra or Insurance 10% off extra discount.

I did this and got the $150 discounted to $135 then got the 2000 points ($10 off) on top = $125

  • Right timing for MIL which her Boost yearly plan expiring early next month, complains too much to renew, and only wants to spend around $150, this is just perfect!

  • Vodafone has this plan on their website for $179.
    https://www.vodafone.com.au/prepaid/plans?srsltid=AfmBOops0B…

    • No deal for $29 more expensive and losing 2000 ER points too

  • +1

I grabbed this much earlier in the year, taking a bit of a gamble having not used Vodafone in many years. While it’s not been perfect, reception and speeds overall have been excellent, and for the price ($12/month) it’s very hard to beat.

Just started my last month of Felix @ 50% off. Been happy with the Vodafone reception after haven't used it for years. Might jump on this offer.

    Edit. Changed a word

    • Port and and port back to Felix, their 50% discount ends later this month :)
Although this Vodafone deal is less messing about for 12 months.

      • Yeah the 12 month is definitely the easiest.

Not sure if porting from Voda MVNO to Voda can cause delays/issues like with Optus.

        Will port from Felix-Optus-Voda.

        • I just ported from Felix to Lebara, and back to Felix, no issues, only took a couple of minutes :)

  • So if I already have Vodafone prepaid can I use this instead of next recharge or I have to setup this as a new account and "transfer" my old Vodafone number to this Vodafone account?

    • +1

You will need to port out somewhere else and then back to Vodafone, i.e., unfortunately it can’t be used to simply “recharge” your existing account.

    esim or no?

    • Says eSim or not on their website, check it out

  • +1

Can you buy 2 and get 4000 points?

    • confirmed that buying 2 Sims in one transaction still gets 4000 bonus points

  • do you need to activate by a certain date?

  • Its shown as full price on woolworths sydney townhall

    • Did you look via the online catalogue?

      • I came to the store

        • Yeah so if you check both the online & physical catalogue & if one shows it at $150 they have to honour it.

Also it might not be listed on special in store but will scan at $150.

          • +1

@WatchNerd: I see, ill try again and let see how it goes

            Thank you

  • Do we get SMS in overseas without buying international roaming pack? Boost allows to receive SMS overseas without additional charges.

  • +4

I ended up buying this and ported over on Thursday from Felix as I only had a couple days left for the month (mistakenly thought I just started a new month).
    Port was instant.
Checked auto renew (which I won't do) and gained an extra 50GB.

    • Huh so you received 290GB by saying yes to auto renew when activating?

      • +3

Yeah 290GB total for opting in to auto renew

        • +1

Just confirming this worked for my wife as well

  • +1

Wife just picked one up and was able to get the 10% off with everyday extras.

  • Will this work on a standard 4G phone (Nokia 5.3) ?

Porting over from ezysim 12m recharge which is $150 but 4G and 100G only.

    • +1

I think Vodafone is fine. But if you use Optus or its MVNO like Amaysim, you may always hear warning about 3G shutdown every time you make phone calls if your phone is not in their list. Vodafone has 3G shutdown already. I have sim cards from all three networks.

4G is slower than 5G on Vodafone. 4G speed maybe similar with your experience, but 5G Vodafone in my phone in Sydney City can reach around 270/280 Mbps. Amaysim (Optus) 5G was around 170 Mbps, may have been downgraded to 100 Mbps with new sim card/plan. Boost Mobile is limited to max 150 Mbps.

If you want faster speed, better buy a 5G phone.

  • Up to $189 this month, shouldn’t have waited assuming it’d be $150 again

Pain, time to port onto a 1 month and hope for Black Friday
