Miyosmart Lens Pros and Cons? Effectiveness?

My daughter is 9 years old and Specsaver said they should try Miyosmart glasses as that will help control progressing myopia

I just want to know if anyone has experience with it ?

Update 20/9- we got Stellest lenses frame booked yesterday. Also need to put lowest dose of Atropine drops each night. The lens are quite dear though.

  • Why not Ortho-K? No spectacle/glasses required and my kid hates wearing glasses.

Miyosmart is to slow down the progression of myopia, ortho k is reshaping the cornea to fix vision in short duration.

They are two different products and ortho k requires a stable vision for it to be effective otherwise ur spending a grand only for it to be effective for short term.

      • So that's the difference! That probably explains why Ortho-K is lifetime.

        • Ortho K also claims to slow myopia but it is not as effective as peripheral defocusing lenses (Miyosmart / Stellest lenses) or low dose Atropine. Also has a risk of infection which the other myopia control options don't have. It is a low risk BUT for those who do get an infective keratitis the effects can be devastating. Seen it a couple of times.

My son uses it. Bloody expensive, $500 for a pair of lenses, frame on top. Seems to be working but the next check is due soon and he hasn’t complained about vision. The alternative for us was normal lenses and eye drops, we didn’t want drops.

  • Miyosmart is a great myopia control option, they also give a warranty of 12 months if you have a change of -0.50 or more they will replace the lenses for free.
But even better yet, best to spend more time outside in the sunlight to slow down myopia progression. Do homework in garden / balcony, try to do more outdoor sports and spend time on weekends outside. 2hrs/day or 14hrs/ week of extra outdoor time to what they are spending at lunch and recess in schools.

  • Following the thread as we are also considering getting this, keen to hear feedback from parents.

Very expensive for something young kids can easily break..
