Battery Video Doorbells

Just seeing what everyone recommends, as there seems to be so many on the market these days and each seems to have their flaws.

I see the TP-Link Tapo highly recommended, especially due to no need for a subscription etc, but it won't stream the video to a Google Nest Hub automatically (which would be ideal).

Currently have a Ring cam for security, and paying for that subscription, but again the Ring doorbell doesn't stream to Google Nest Hub.

Google doorbell does obviously stream to Nest Hub, however without subscription it only retains 3hrs of footage.

Are there any other options which:

  • Are subscription-free, or a small charge
  • Stream to a Google Nest Hub
  • Are battery operated

Thanks!

  • If you have Ring with a subscription, the next best thing is Google Doorbell with a subscription.

I rate this no-subscription Eufy because I like having a mains-powered chime which also secures the SD card indoors

    • I like mine, but it's the only VD I've had so far, couldn't comment or compare to it to any other VD yet.

After my detail research, Google Nest suits my need the most.
Only 1 subscription fee for all cameras in my house which is cheap for my 10 Nest cameras
Amazon Ring charge a fee for every single camera and it doesn't give you any history at all if you don't pay.

3 hours of history is not a concern for me as I live in a safe and quiet middle class suburb, and I am able to check my phone during working hours.
you may download the video clip to your phone within that 3 hours window.
I only pay for subscription when I am away from town when time zone is different from Australia.
Of course I will let my neighbor know I am away and ask for their help.

I don't trust Chinese brands as they have backdoors which can be easily hacked in and privacy policy means nothing to them.
Just a few days ago a Chinese woman heard strange male voice at home from a Xiaomi security camera.

Had a Ring doorbell and Samsung lock for a few years. Replaced them with the Eufy video doorbell lock. Much better, and no subscription paired with the HomeBase 3 with built in SSD storage. The Ring was pretty bad with reception even with a Chime installed 2 meters away. Would often miss movement in front of it, and talking to anyone was SHOCKINGLY bad. I had put up with it for years.

  • Ring is pretty integrated into Alexa isn't it? Eufy I think is similar and has integration into Alexa to use as a door chime at least.
If you have the money then maybe look into .moving away from google?

I personally am all google throughout the house. The doorbell does use my speakers as door chimes and shows video on my displays.

The word "stream" can be taken in different ways. If you ask google to stream X camera, it can. But yea getting doorbell notifications is different.

  • I just have a dumbbell and a eufy camera that detects anyone approaching the front door. Can talk through the camera if need be. No subscription needed.
