      • +5

        Katoomba started in 1990

          • @ilovefullprice: We are talking about why it's called Katoomba and for how long but feel free to keep having your own side convo mate

            • @GrueHunter: Yes I am indeed sharing my knowledge here about other suburb names gaining popularity and not all just Bondi

    • +1

They are excellent for frozen Chapatti

      • +3

Honestly 95% as good as chapatti you'd get at a food court indian restaurant.

        • +7

They're probably selling the same stuff.

    • I am guessing here, but Katoomba sounds very similar to "Family" or "Community" in several Indian languages.

      • +1

Katoomba is actually a place near Blue Mountains Sydney

        • I know, been there atleast a dozen times now.

    • Because it's proudly Australian owned.

  • What's the difference between this and the roti ?

    • -6

      They are the same.

    • +4

Chapati is flatter with usually whole grains, mostly cooked in middle part of the India, Southern Malaysia. While Roti is thicker mix flour bread cooked northern India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Northern Malaysia.

If you havent tried this would be the easiest and cheapest way to get to taste it. In Indian restaurants they sometimes interchange names for roti and chapati

can i fry it and make papadam?

        asking for a friend.

        • +1

You can fry and try to make Poori.

    • +6

Roti generally means 'bread' in a few South Asian and Southeast Asian countries.

That said the main difference tends to be if you fry it or not.

Chappatis are usually not fried and can be wholemeal or whiteflour. Cooked on the pan but little or no oil used. They are not folder over to create layers.
Parathas (or Roti Paratas) are usually fried with oil either in the dough or in the pan. Usually start in the same base but are folded over or layered to create flakiness.

Chappatis are usually healthier and lighter to eat than Parathas.

You can get something similar in Coles/Woolies in the bakery section called: Wholemeal flat wrap or White Flour flat wrap. Upto you if you want to use a filling and wrap it or just eat it flat like normal roti.

You can also freeze those and eat them later. 30 secs microware or flat plan reheat in 3-5 mins.

Paratha is the GOAT. Also sadly the GOAT for expanding your waistline

        • Ha ha it sure is.

Straight out of the frying pan and into my mouth.

These go great in the sandwich press btw

    • +1

Make sure the sandwich press is hot and the roti is still well frozen otherwise you'll have a sticky mess

  • Is this the same Indian flatbread called tendoor roti? Just love those with their chicken/lamb/goat gravy dishes

    • +3

Tandoor roti is different. This seems to be tawa roti.

    • No, Tandoors are ovens so usually for Naan.

Tawa (or flat plan) roti is roti cooked in a flat pan.

    • This is a less carby and lighter version of Tandoori Roti, except it is cooked on a regular pan.

  • +1

They are the thinnest of any frozen rotis/parathas I've ever had. Taste is decent.

  • OOS?

    • In stock at my local in Perth. If you click the link here though it comes up straight away as OOS.

  • Anybody know the diameter?

    • +1

      17 cm.
      Cherrybrook NSW store has plenty.

  • Out of stock in many stores in Melbourne west

  • +2

So much plastic packaging in these. Thereโ€™s at least 1 piece of plastic between each chapati. They are good though

  • Look up two minutes naan by haste kitchen. UK chef… Not chapati exactly, but good recipe. Great for something quick to go with a curry.

    • is that tthe 2 ingredient one? or something else..

  • I hope it's not discontinued

  • Thanks for sharing the deal

I used to like them a lot, but Iโ€™m getting old and now look for a healthier option
a convenient option, however it may not be as good for health
It has lots of fats, please check the labels
I would better have a pita bread as roti than a frozen one

For a second I thought your user name was "India pale male" ๐Ÿ˜†

  • Haha
    ๐Ÿ˜€
I was having a beer and just wanted to create a username, so just made what was in my hand

    • Thank goodness you weren't watching porn. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

  • I'm sorry… Some one explain to me how this is $11 in the first place? And then is discounted over 50%?

    • Well it doesn't matter for $4 - I purchased 4 packs of these which were still advertised as $11 & only had 4 left in stock. Hard to get in most Woolies in Brisbane. If you AirFry them all the oil is dried up & they become yummy azzz!!! Thanks admin.

  • Do they use palm oil in their chapati? I stopped buying their paratha when I discovered they use palm oil in their parathas

    • What's wrong with palm oil???

      • There are lots of products which have a percentage of palm oil, however if you eat chapatis then make a habit of exercising for at least half hour to keep your bodies calorie level stagnant.

  • Good if they are fully cooked and puffed up. Used to just go two minutes each side.
