First confirm what internet speed you are signed up to with ISP. A gigabit connection will need a gigabit compatible router.
Next confirm what size property you have and whether there's multiple floors or thick walls to consider as well as proposed location of router inside home. If it's in garage and you want rear garden internet access then an extender or mesh will be required.
Finally confirm if your devices are WiFi 5 or 6 compatible (or default to WiFi 6 anyway for future proofing without paying the WiFi 7 premium).
Then find a suitable router that meets requirements.
You should not need a $300 budget unless you want a mesh with multiple units. ~$100 budget should more than suffice. A mesh is highly recommended though for consistent coverage throughout.
Ubiquiti Edgerouter X, plus a separate WAP.
I'd suggest a router that's nearly identical to the rt-ax88u that is recommended, the Asus Tuf-ax6000 can be had for just under $300, (Amazon imported from Germany at time of writing), ticks all of the boxes from that site, it's only difference other than the shell, afaict is just 512mb of RAM vs 1024mb on the ax88u, but again that router doesn't seem to be available in Australia (new).
