  • I don’t mind JW blue, last bottle iirc I got it for $180.

I’d prob go another bottle if it if it goes $180 again.

  • Bushmills 10yo is probably the best cheapest drink. I like Chivas 18yo too. Makers 46 is my goto bourbon.

  • I only drink neat. I have a fairly standard range that, if they drop sub $100 I'll look at - Balvenie, Dalwhinnie, Aberlour. Old Pulteney is my fav but rarely is sub $79. I do prefer the Glenfarclas ranges (not the new 8) but getting that sub $100/150 is a rare thing now.

If Makers whatever drops below $55/65 I'll grab for obligatory Xmas presents.

When blended Scotch is mentioned as being great, often bogans are involved in the conversation… Johnnie Walker Blue is usually the first drop that’s quoted by someone that’s a bogan, and Chivas Regal isn’t far behind. After my mother divorced my father I grew up in a Western Sydney area in the early-mid 90s, and still have a lot of friends from this time in my my life. I’m not saying my friends are bogans, however I do know a thing or two about how bogans think.

Without going into great detail, if you want a great bourbon whiskey then look no further than Wild Turkey Rare Breed, if you want a great quality Scotch Whisky, then there isn’t much better than Aberlour A'bunadh for the money.

I love anything sherry and A’bunadh is one my favourites along Benriach, Glendronach and Tamdhu. I think Benriach is punching above its weight for its price on the 12 year old unpeated lineup.

  • Makers Mark, Jameson & Aberlour are my go-to's. Also found myself getting into Brandy lately, drink it on the rocks just like Whiskey and St Agnes is fantastic value for money.

  • Just returned from Japan this morning, great prices for Scotch whisky, awful prices for Japanese age statements. Picked up 4 bottles (Glenfarclas 10, Caol Ila 12, Ardbeg 10 and a Japanese blend) for $210 tax free. Bear in mind the tax discount was only 10%, you can see how much the Aus government is taking in tax. I usually stock up when there is offers, notably recent Ardbeg deal at Dans and the Coles SAVEMORE that was running for a while.

    • Do you think $85 is fantastic price for Glendronach 12?

      • Not bad

  • For a decent inexpensive whisky, i like the canadian brand seagrams. Though dan murphy and first choice have both stopped stocking it.
