Roasted Cashews 750g (Salted or Unsalted) $10 @ Coles

1110

Deal doesn't appear to be in the catalogue. Same deal used to be every few weeks but I haven't seen them at this price for well over a month now. I check in store regularly and had almost given up but today I was waiting in a checkout queue and on a whim decided to do a quick check.

As in the title - 750g $10 (usually $16), or $13.33/kg equivalent.

Imo easily the best of the bulk (cheap) supemarket cashews (Aldi next, Ww a bad last). Ymmv.

Deal doesn't appear to be in the catalogue.

    why not?

    • +3

      Is that an existential question?

      • something's clearly wrong

    • +1

Because it is not in catalogue

      • -5

why isn't it in the catalogue?

        • +7

          Because you/I/someone looked?

          I blame Quantum mechanics.

To be or not to be.

        • +2

Just because you can't see it in the catalogue, it doesn't mean that it's not in the catalogue

          • @djmm: OK, I'll try using Perturbation theory…

        • Sue Coles if you like.

          • -3

@slackme: Is Sue the checkout chick there?

  • Are these salted as well?

    • +1

      Salted and Unsalted options

      • -1

What's the difference between salted and unsalted one?

        • +4

The explanation is in the name, the unsalted ones are plain cashews whereas the salted ones have salt added to them for flavour.

        • +2

          One has oil added

    Dry roasted FTW, cheers OP!

  • +1

dry roasted big pack of almonds also 10 (same price as the 400g)

  • Packed in Australia from less then 10% Australian ingredients..

I assume the salt is from Australia then

    • Ok.

      • If you’re happy paying $14KG for imported cashews then go for it. Stay poor.

        • What's the alternative?

          • +1

@magic8ballgag: Mate you’re paying $14 a kilo for cashews from Vietnam. They cost about $2 over there for a KG and if you’ve tasted Aussie cashews vs Vietnam you wouldn’t be asking the question..

            • @Iwantthebestprice: Where did you find $2/Kg cashews in Vietnam? The cheapest I found is around $8/Kg

              • +1

@Scythic: BB grade is ~$US2/kg oin Vietnam. Possibly why the Aussie cashews taste so much better?

You can get a good meal for $A5 and a beer for a buck and a half. I still prefer to live here.

@Iwantthebestprice: You think Australian cashews taste good? Try Sri Lankan cashews.

Agreed OP, why are Woolies cashews so bad… They taste like soap.

    • Were okay 12 months ago but after two 'bad' bags I'm not going back anytime soon.

    • I find ‘scoop & weigh’ taste much better & fresher compared to this. Unfortunately not the same price :/

  • +1

    just normal price of Aldi

    • Aldi Forresters are $18.99/kg and lower quality (imo)

      • Forresters

These are The Bold and the Beautiful cashews.

Since switching exclusively to Kirkland Fancy Whole Cashews from Costco $17.65 per kg (excellent, not cheap) I read in a NY Times article: Costco sells half the world’s cashews.

        • +1

Interesting, would never have guessed Costco was that big.
Their USA website has some other "interesting" facts about cashews:

Did you know that Costco sells…
          HALF of the worlds Cashews?
          🤯 I know, right?!
          Who knew?

Here are a few other interesting and fun facts about Cashews sold at Costco:
-Costco has partnered with 2.5 million African farmers to purchase their cashews
-Costco can track and trace every single shipment of cashews from each farmer
-Cashews sold at Costco are shelled & roasted in Vietnam
-Cashew trees can grow up to 45 feet tall
-Most African cashew farms are only 1.5 acres in size
-Cashews are not actually nuts. They are the seeds of the cashew apple, which is a tropical fruit
-Cashew nuts are a good source of protein, fiber, and minerals such as magnesium, copper, and manganese
-Cashew trees can live for up to 100 years
-Cashew trees are pollinated by bats and bees
-Cashew nuts are the most labor-intensive nut to produce
-India is the world’s largest producer of cashew nuts

          • @Igaf: Once I tried them I can't go back to Coles/Woolies/Aldi

  • I prefer the taste of Australian nuts.

    • No you don't.

  • That's nuts!

I'll cashew guys around Coles, see you there

OP, the title of this deal isn't quite right, as the salted ones aren't dry roasted. Click on the pic of the back of the bag, and you'll see sunflower oil in the ingredients list.

    • +2

      Fixed.

  • their smoked almonds are SO addictive. Hopefully they will be on special again soon

  • aldi is $2 more meh

  • I bought the unsalted roasted ones and they taste terrible almost chemical. Going to attempt the 'try it, love it or your money back' promise on the back. No receipt though
