Recommendation for Tyre - Mazda CX-9 255/60R18 108H

Hi all, would someone be so kind enough to recommend some comparable tyres to: GEOLANDAR HT G056 MAZDA CX9

My wife's CX9's tyres are getting fairly worn, so looking to change all 4.

TIA!

  • Tempe Tyres has them for cheap if you live near one of those

    • NSW only retailer :( I'm in Melbourne.

  • Can you share what's on your tyre placard? Size & speed rating

If you can wait until November MyCar have been running this deal for the past few years

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/812049

  • What do you want to get out of your tyres? Grip? Low noise? Longevity? Cheap price? You cant have all of them, and you cant recpmmend a tyre unless you know what thw driver wants.

    • We are largely happy with the way the Geolandar performed. They came with the new car — and are fairly grippy and quiet. They lasted circa 45k km. So in a nutshell, just wondering if there are similar tires to the Geolandar out there. Better cost-effectivness would be better. However, not at the price of the other aspects, as my wife ferries the kids in it.

  • At Costco;
    Bridgestone - Buy 3 get 4th free
    Michelin - Buy 4, $100 off

  • If they lasted 45k km, that is pretty sweet. I'd just get them again, Yokohama make good tires. You can shop around, find the best price you can find for them, then call a local tire shop and ask if they will match that price. Often they will.

  • Comparable tyre: GEOLANDAR HT G056 XL

If you're not going off-road (trails etc) more than a couple times a year the Geolanders aren't really fit for purpose and lose out on grip/comfort (minimal) for rigidity.
Replacing them like for like won't be the most cost effective excercise, and there's better reputable brand options that'll be lighter on the wallet.
Personally recommend anything from the Bridgestone, Michelin, Continental, Dunlop or Pirelli range that isnt an eco tyre.
I have changed to the Dunlop Sport FM800 from this deal on my outback (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/793284) and am a big advocate for them.
The Pirelli deal mentioned above is also good (but near unobtainable), but I'd pay a little more for the FM800 (seems to have less road noise imo)

  • Have a look at these. Around $935 fitted

    https://www.tyroola.com.au/kumho-crugen-premium-suv-kl33-255…

    • Seems that the UTQG Treadwear is almost 50% of the Geolandar's. Presumably that means they will only last half the time? Is that right?

      • Normally, but other factors come into it as well, such as tyre rotation, climate & testing condition & the way how the tyre got tested to get that rating, since the testing isn't standardised. I always found Yokohama tyres optimistic with the UTQG Treadwear. If you rotate them correctly, a tyre with a UTQG rating of 440 should last 45,000km easy.

  • I recommend the Geolandar 058 vs your current 056. Ive used on a couple of my cars, it’s more of a highway and bitumen tyre compared to 056 which is better for off-roading. Great grip, quiet and long life.

    • The OPs linked tyre isnt an off road tyre. Its definitely highway biased.

  • Michelin Primacy4 SUV.Best tyre out there by far.

  • Also, does anyone understand the difference between the model from OP and this:
    GEOLANDAR HT G056 XL

Seems to be largely the very similar model with similar ratings, but $370 vs $280!?

    • The XL is a later model with higher speed and load ratings, but you haven't shared what's on your placard. The older model is no longer available (well, you can purchase qty=1).

        • 255/60R18 107H but a right-hand drive model? Reason I asked it that many CX-9 variants have 20-inch rims

          • @sumyungguy: Yes. Usually CX9 GT trim and up have 20 inch as standard. With the Touring trim however, it's optional. We have 18 inches on ours.
