Acrylic Sheet/Perspex to Cover Breezeways

I am hoping to cover up some breezeways in an old Queenslander for sound / temperature insulation. I was going to get some acrylic sheets, cut em with a jigsaw and put it on each side and screw them together.

This seems fairly expensive from Bunnings: https://www.bunnings.com.au/suntuf-900-x-600-x-5mm-clear-acr…

I have 6 breezeways 75cm x 35cm and the max depth of recess is 2cm.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get a better price than Bunnings? I'm in SE QLD.

Cheers

Price isn't terrible but you'll get a bit better from an acrylic supplier. I don't work with acrylic that thick very often but last sheet I bought of 6mm was $82 for a 1200x600 for cast, extruded should be a bit cheaper.

    • Thanks, appreciate it!

Definitely goto a plastics supplier. It will be way cheaper. I got a 2400x1200x3mm panel cut to size for $110

Twinwall is cheaper and has better insulation properties.

    • Thanks! I didn't know about this stuff, I'll do some research now.

Those 6 panels fit on a standard full size sheet. Find a local supplier who can cut to size.

If you were in Melbourne it would be $46 a panel for 6mm Japanese PMMA cast acrylic cut to size, or $70 per panel for 6mm USA Polycarbonate material.

    • Really appreciate it, thank you!

      • If no luck getting a good price locally send me a PM, might be cheaper to ship it from Melb to QLD then local.

Call up a local supplier. They can cut to your required size. But i note that acrylic in general isnt a cheap item.

I reckon you at least need impact resistant acrylic otherwise you'll have to reinstall after every hail storm; e.g. PLEXIGLAS® Resist is modestly hail resistant

    • Sorry, I forgot to mention they are internal - so fingers crossed they don't see any hail..

Would polycarbonate roof sheeting work? Its dramatically cheaper, and you could probably unneeded sheets secondhand.

    • If i can drill a hole in it to attach the sheets back to back that could work. I will take a look at this - thank you!

Would most likely to be referring to twinwall. Good quality sold polycarbonate is not cheap.

        • Thanks - I have sent off an enquiry to a Twinwall mob down here. Could I please ask which would you personally use to solve this problem? Money is a medium issue but I don't need the cheapest, sound/temperature insulation is the most important.

          Thanks for your help!

  • I bought through my local signage shop. They had to order it in but it was a fair amount cheaper. I paid just under $60 for one sheet.
