isnt it better to just turn on aircon?
depends if your aircon has a dehumidifier function.
trying to cool down humid air with a standard aircon chews through so much more power.
removing the moisture from the air can make a warm house feel so much more comfortable
30 degrees with 0% humidity is so comfortable
30 degrees with 100% humidity is terrible
source - I live in Queensland and have airconditioning
This unit gives off a load of heat and can raise the room temp considerably which kind of defeats the purpose if using it just for comfort.
Humidity indoors brings heat, and if no ventilation, also mould eventually. So this will help in both situations.
Not worth it.
I got one of their units and it's loud asf when running at low speed, at high speed it releases way too much heat making the room to feel like an oven.
I bought one from Breville, Aussie company too, and I've very happy with it. Better temperature control, overall it's a nicer unit.
Which Breville did you buy ?
https://www.amazon.com.au/Breville-Smart-Connect-Dehumidifie…
It was cheaper when I bought it.
From what I understand, dehumidifier will always release some heat during working operation when the humidity is too high.
This Breville does not make it noticeable, the Ausclimate one felt like an oven was on so I would also assume that it has terrible power usage rating.
Right now I have it in my bathroom, there is no room and mold grow everywhere.
Well, not anymore with this Breville in there.
Sometimes specially after the shower, I get back there and the bathroom feels very cozy and warm in a positive way. Not that warm, sticky mess.
It is somewhat quiet when only the fan is on, and slightly louder when it is collecting the moisture from the air.
I have it set to go off only above 60% humidity, there are days I don't hear it working while others it goes off many times.
are you sure it wasn't a desiccant dehumidifier (i.e. AU-1910DD) that would vent more heat than a compressor dehumidifier (WDH-930DA, LAD308WHT2IAN1)?
Im curious about this as the compressor type dehumidifiers are marketed as creating less heat, i have a delonghi dissicant unit that i got on sale awhile back, works really well but in summer it blows hot air and raises the ambient temp very noticeably
I was looking to buy a compressor dehimid for summer but you're making it sound like a waste of money ?
it blows hot air and raises the ambient temp very noticeably
Yes, Ausclimate right there so why I returned it. It was making the problem even worse.
Breville does release some heat but it isn't near that bad so why I kept it and I am glad I did as it solved my bathroom mold problem where it sits today.
Hey man cheers for reply, can you tell us the model ? Im curious if it was dessicant or compressor
FWIW, it is in Choice's recommended list and is for very large area. For smaller rooms or apartments, you can get the Ionmax 610 desiccant type also in the Choice's list, quiet in operation (to me at least). $241 delivered using code SAVETHG,
Never knew how much I needed a dehumidifier until I got one and saw how much water it takes from the air in an apartment.
The type of dehumidifier you should get all depends where you live.
Refrigerant models are more suitable for tropical or subtropical climates, but they may not be as effective in cooling a room if the generated heat exceeds their cooling capacity. They also consume a ton of energy.
Dessicant models are better suited for cooler climates, providing warm air while in use. The Ausclimate AU1910DD was the top-rated dessicant model in Choice’s July 2024 review and best rated overall. The one posted by OP is the second best rated refigerant model, and the Breville mentioned elsewhere in the comments the top rated refigerant model.
and the Breville mentioned elsewhere in the comments the top rated refigerant model.
Breville LAD308 mentioned above was not in Choice's recommended list.
The only Choice recommend Breville LAD250 was a dessicant unit.
Choice's top refrigerant was DeLonghi DD230P (RRP $649).
The one posted by OP is the second best rated refigerant model
Op is Choice's 5th top refrigerant unit.
Turns out the DD230P is the one i have currently , so i guess this is as good as its gonna get for not raising the ambient temp. Looks like I will cancel this ausclimate order 🤦♂️
