Grocery Run - Issue with Best Before Date

Hey People,

On the 25/11/2012 - 17:25 some of you may have noticed I posted this deal: 2x Hairy Lemon Effervescent 20 Tablets $3.38 + $4 Shipping (Shipping Has $11 Cap) WAS ~$13.95

In my deal I clearly copied and pasted the information from the site with particular detail to the Best Before date being:

Best Before: 31/1/13

(I added the # tag to make it a Bold statement) I also repeated it in my post to let the people of Oz Bargain aware.

When they arrived they are all marked with Best Before of 31/12/12. I contacted the support staff to let them know of the mistake, and their response was:

I have checked the Hairy Lemon advertisement on our website and can see that the best before date is advertised as 31/12/2012. I have attached a copy of the advertisement for your information.

I looked at the product now and the Best Before date is indeed 31/12/2012, and a google cache result of the 25th at 11pm of November shows this change in the Best Before date.

I know there were a few users who also commented on the Best Before Date that I had mentioned in my post.

How do I go about this? I need some help gathering evidence!

  • You need more evidence than Google cache? Surely the fact that it changes is open and shut, the question is just what (if anything) will be done about it.

    • The Google Cache is taken at 11pm, the deal was posted at 5pm. The Google cache at 11pm shows Best Before of 31/12/12.

Trying to find google cache of an earlier time. There is no way that I did not copy and paste the deal currently, especially as I also # tagged it for bold!

      • Ah sorry, I misunderstood.

        • No worries bruce :) Someone even commented the other deal with the Best Before date, would be great if anyone else you saw the Best Before could come forward :)

  • Have you tried writing back explaining that the advert was changed after you purchased? Just a thought… Sometimes these are just admin operators who do not understand the IT implications. Perhaps copy your post from here (just the quote from the advert) in your next email to them? Worst case scenario is that maybe they are ok after that date, but that's certainly not the point. I empathise with your frustration. They should just do the right thing and refund. I copy the adverts of items I buy and paste into word then keep on file to ensure I get what I paid for (not much help this time but maybe for next time).

    • Hey, yeah will do that from now on for sure! And sadly, yes I did email the support staff stating exactly as I did above, well a paraphrased version. They pretty much replied saying that the best before date was 12/2012 and closed the case, so I reopened it and let them know what happened.

  • +1

meh, they'll still be ok after the best before date. only a 1 month difference. really, what did you expect when you used groceryrun?

    • I've used grocery run countless times before, never had a problem :) I just can't believe the situation! Will try find some more evidence tomorrow!

  • too bad you didnt edit enough times, you could have some proof like Revisions

    • Yeah the proof is in the post date though, the problem is this isn't "proof" to them. This is their reply to those interested :)

I am afraid we cannot find any reference to a use-by date of 31/1/2013, so if you are able to find this please let me know and I will be able to help you further.

I will try PM scotty to get a hold of a user who commented with the use by date :)

  • Hey everyone,

After many back and forth's with sales, and constant mentioning that I had copied their exact deal and many other users could confirm this use by date in that had there been a mistake it would have been corrected (or deleted by Moderators due to Strict Oz Bargain posting rules, the link had roughly 200 click throughs) - I even had to go as far as quoting a user's comment on the use by date, and that perhaps it was an error on part of the marketing department being that they later changed the use by date on the website I finally received this email.

I have investigated this further for you, and I have been advised by our buying department that it is possible that we had received one batch of this product from our supplier with a different use by date. When this happens, the product description will be updated for a very short time until all products with that expiry date have sold. Unfortunately our product data base does not show us these part expiry dates.

I have therefore gone ahead and refunded $24.40 for these items, including $8.00 shipping. Please allow 2 - 3 business days for the amount to appear on your statement.

I do apologise for the confusion, and thank you for your patience with this matter. If you have any further queries please don't hesitate to ask.

    • Hey,

It seems like you got the problem solved. If there's any other help you need, just let me know.

      • Hey, cheers for coming to check it out! Yes, all sold, got my refund so I'm happy :) Quick question, did you happen to look at the deal from the website and see the best before date that I had mentioned? Just out of curiosity :)

        • nope, as soon as I saw the best before date on your post I wasn't keen on buying. Just went to buy the one at Woolies instead
