Pretty decent car and value for money for 34K.

Your car is Japanese / German. Your vodka is Russian. Your pizza is Italian. Your kebab is Turkish. Your democracy is Greek. Your coffee is Brazilian. Your movies are American. Your tea is Tamil. Your shirt is Indian. Your oil is Saudi. Your numbers are Arabic and your letters are Latin. Almost everything else in your house is made in China. Dont worry about this car being chinese or indian made?

  • If you see the new Hyundai Santa Fe in photos, it looks horrible. In person, it looks great. The XUV 700 is the opposite. In photos it looks OK. In person, man it is ugly.

That said, actually a really decent SUV for the price. Similar to the captains chair version of the pre-2024 Hyundai Santa Fe. Really comfortable drive. Just wish Mahindra wouldn't take their design ideas from the early 80s SUVs.

Interesting how all the features are just 'tech' related. Nothing about engine capacity, materials used or engine power.

    • The engine is discussed in the brochure, 150kw, 380Nm at 1750rpm. Seems powerful enough but it will chew through fuel. I'd spend a bit more on a diesel for something this large, you will save the difference in fuel costs in a few years.

No ANCAP rating, not good enough. Previous gen were terrible with safety features, and even though this one has improved, it's still risky without any rating. Resale values are very low and you have to take a huge hit to eventually trade it in as not many buyers are considering this brand. Drive quality, noise, handling, fuel efficiency, power all these things are still lacking as compared to some of the established brands. Parts availability and service/maintenance is another thing which is a bit of unknown. I'd give it a miss and go for a Korean brand instead.

    • That is true about previous generation. Can watch some YouTube videos. Sunmary was that they put body of new modern SUV in old spec car from 10 years ago where you don't have any safety features like auto braking, etc.

The newer model though has those features now and is now at par with other cars like Kia, etc. Just not sure why they aren't getting their ANCAP rating done. Would be good to know official verdict from ANCAP. I expect the price to go up as well if they perform well in the rating.

      • Nah man last ANCAP in 2023 was 0. They don't need an ANCAP rating. They already know what that's going to be.

Anyone considering buying a Mahindra should join their owners page on Facebook to understand issues with these cars. I've been following xuv700 and scorpio Facebook pages for over a year now and both these models are full of problems it seems. It's almost as if customers have to visit dealership at least once or twice a month for so called "software updates" just to avoid screen going blank frequently. This is just one problem. Both scorpio and xuv700 suffer from multiple other faults too. So many customers are complaining there. I was planning to buy one but these complaints from real customers on their Facebook page steered me away.

    • Don't know about XUV700 but my scorpio never had any issues, I heard the XUV700 used to have the software problem or the screen going blank, but they should have solved this like 6 months ago, any XUV700 can comment more on this

      • Nah, people are still reporting these problems on there. Good if you don't have any issues with your Scorpio, you may be the lucky one.

    How is this a deal?
Seriously questioning anyone who voted for this deal

  • +2

Yeh that's gonna be a no from me, I'll stick to my Toyota's… Funny thing ozbargainers will risk their safety all in the name of being cheap 😂

  • +4

Avoid this. Crap quality. They are just exporting their trash here.

  • Wondering how many new cars have engine failures?

  • I’d be ok driving a car without an ANCAP rating if it was just me inside it, but I couldn’t do it with my kids on board.

    • +1

If you have kids, I'd say don't even drive alone in this, for the sake of a complete childhood for your kids…

Mahindra Scorpio was awarded 0 stars. I suspect that’s the reason behind the no ANCAP rating for the XUV.

    https://www.racq.com.au/articles/safety/2024/02/ancap-delive…

    • Maybe it will get the first -1 star Ancap rating.

      • -1

Yeah, Mahindra should have their own ANCAP rating. IT will be called "F%^ off"

  • Not recommending it or anything but I checked some stats, it's the 2nd best selling vehicle in D1 segment in India behind Toyota Innova Hycross

    • +12

Safety in India is the last consideration unfortunately.

      • +1

yes, the mentality is "kitna deti hai?" which means "how much is the mileage?"

    • Toyotas as expensive in India

  • +3

XUV700 looks like they've got the body of a Renault Koleos and beat it with an ugly stick.

  • +1

    This or the 6000 SUX?

      Upvote for the Robocop reference

Suffix "dra" is a typical Indian name, so it's not chinese brand.

    • Bra(h), dun worry bout Dra.

  • No thanks

  • +3

Can this be any lower on the ANCAP safety of 0.

    https://www.ancap.com.au/safety-ratings/mahindra/scorpio/470…

Perhaps this car XUV700 will score -1.

Buy and find out after a crash.

  • How does this compare to scorpion model?

  • +3

No ANCAP, no deal. As others have pointed out the build quality is crap, with customer support closely following.

its good to have but just like Health star rating on food products in coles/Woolies . 5 star means best from mental perspective but may not be best ( possibly worst) for physical body. 5 star labeled fruit juice may be worse than coke/pepsi..

Also, OP food and safety are not two things I relate.

What's disappointing is a brand like Mahindra which has deep pockets and a huge presence in India. Thought it would be suitable to release a vehicle in Australia without doing any proper review on what's required to sell successfully in the Australian market.

How did nobody think to review local ANCAP restrictions or conduct market research on what will be needed to sell here?

  • +1

TBH you can't get 7 seater new for 34k. this is best it can get regardless of any minor issues.

  • +1

what an ugly design of these cars! They look way too cheap. Nah.

  • +2

this was 40k+ just last December? Depreciating in the car lot

  • +1

My mate picked this up about 6 months ago for around 40 grand. He was stoked with it. I went on a trip with them – super comfy, drives real smooth. It’s got a big screen too (reckon I’ve seen something similar in the Kia Sportage). His family’s wrapped with the buy, and for 33k, I’d say it’s a great deal

  • +4

Keep in mind resale value is going to be relatively poor. XUV500 is worth only 60% after 3 years (no data on XUV700), about on par with Haval. By comparison, a Jap SUV is going to retain 85-90% after 3 years, typically.

    • +3

"By comparison, a Jap SUV is going to retain 85-90% after 3 years, typically."

That was true during stock shortages in covid.
      Now, not so much.

      • -1

It's still the case according to Redbook.

        • +1

Redbook is based on COVID prices. It's woefully out of date and has completely unrealistic prices for many models.

And of course you have to find a buyer willing to pay the price. You can't sell your car to Red Book.

          • -2

@Cluster: Check Carsales if you don't believe me. Most prices on there are even higher than Redbook. Redbook is constantly being updated and is widely used in the industry.

            • +4

@Mr Bob Dobalina: I sold my car on Carsales two months ago. Carsales was recommending a ridiculous sale price for my vehicle, and comparable cars were on the site for months (and are still there) waiting for a customer at the inflated Red Book price.

Just because a person wants $X on Carsales doesn't mean they'll get it. Carsales doesn't care if the car sells. They've already got their money.

      • Agree, well said.

    • Best advice!

  • -1

"Your kebab is Turkish" - I thought kebabs are Greek?

  • Is this offer valid only on 2023 manufactured cars? My local dealer is saying this offer valid on 2023 manufactured only.

  • +1

Goodness gracious me. These cars are damn ugly, and awful.

    • Worst car in Australia today.

  • What's with the racist comments on this. If you don't like this as a deal, don't buy the car. If there are others that do, let them buy it.
34k for a 7 seater is a good deal, I would prefer this car over an MG or Chery, had an MG that lasted 25k Kms and the build quality was terrible. Lost electricsteering while driving at the speed of 90 on M7.
