Can vouch for it, been using it for almost a year now

    • +82

For goodness sake, please take a break - that's really excessive.

      • +4

Now, that is an example of being funny and not offensive.

    • +1

“The other half” love this style weeding tool too… but also prefers AirTasker, so… 🤷‍♂️

    • +1

      This looks better.

      • +2

Look up on Amazon ‘Japanese weeding tool’ looks kind of like a mini hoe but the blade is supposed to be super sharp. Apparently it’s also a great weeding tool. Prob not as ergonomic for anyone like myself who audibly groan as they bend down/ get off the couch but.

      • +1

        Can vouch for this one.

      • https://www.bunnings.com.au/cyclone-stand-up-weeder-timber-h… (sure looks like "Grampa's Weeder" to me).

I bought this months ago & it's great. I've used it in soft areas as well as really hard packed, dark dirt/lawn. Push deep for long taproot weeds & shallow for wide root balls. Decided against the OP one as it has the same structural issue of cheap plastic (aka Fiskars) where you need to step and lever back.

        FYI

  • +4

Fair few reviews saying that the lever and other plastic components break …

    • +2

Good thing it’s got lifetime warranty

The fiskars one also has reports of easy break.

this member here has a theory perhaps its user error / though the member below that said no it does break easy…

Maybe it’s a combination of both?

      • +2

I had a Fiskar that snapped in a few months, exchanged for this one and it's still going strong

    • +2

I had that concern too and asked a staff member at Bunnings about it. He reckons that the breaks are usually due to people using them incorrectly and using the plastic lever as a foot stomp which its not mean to be. Mines been going strong for about 18 months now with no issue.

      • +1

Pardon my ignorance but isn't that what half of it is used for? or you gotta stomp close to the pole cos how are you going to stamp it into the ground (I am not a spartan)

  • Does it pull out roots or snap them off?

    • +2

      It extracts

      • +4

        Spoken like a dentist.

        • +1

There will be a many dentists here.
This is ozbargain, we are all on 300 to 400k salary here.

          • @bobs burgers: That’s a big range. $300 a year is quite low. Did someone forget a k somewhere???

      • It’s always better to extract rather than snapping!!

    • Pulls them out

  • This is a very good one, have been using it for a while now. Sometimes the pincher bits at the bottom might get stuck with a weed jamming it, but it's easy to pick out. There's a pretty decent warranty on this and the other one at bunnings (it was orange and black), if they ever broke I would go back to them and get a replacement.

    • Orange and black should be the fiskars one, but currently just over $70

      • I’ve got the orange and black one, rate it

  • -8

you can just use a knife or the corner of a square spade. cheap and so simple

    • +7

Are you trying to rob the weeds?

  • Anyone know how this compares to the Hoselink one?

Bought that one for dad when it was available and works really well, so been looking to get one for myself.

    • I guess if it’s no good just return it , reports on ozbargain generally report no fuss return

    • I have the hoselink one. The handle/shaft bent pulling out a weed. Seriously. Might have been ground was hard but the metal pole simply bent. Tempted to try one of these but I'd want to check if the handle is actually decent metal.

  • Would this be better given the hinge are metal?

  • +5

If your weeds resist extermination, it's a very good idea to use these after a bit of rain. If the ground is hard, it's ease of use and effectiveness is very different. I'd say definitely a winter use tool.

    • +1

Can I water the weeds first

      • +3

        Savage

      • So long as enough water got into the soil around the roots…sure! You could pretend the weeds are lemon trees!

  • Ordered and then think….yep why not!

  • +1

I can confirm, the user report OP linked is very reputable. It's a good weed puller

  • Anyone know of a tool to remove weeds growing between pavers? The prongs on these look a bit too big to fit between paver joints.

    • +5

My elderly neighbour swears by boiling hot water.
I just hit mine with roundup

      • +4

"I just hit mine with roundup"
What size bottle? 1 litre probably not heavy enough
        .

    • +2

I have this, it works great.

    • +5

5L spray bottle filled with water and 1L vinegar, along with a few squirts of dishwater liquid.
Spray over pavers during a patch of clear weather, you'll see the weeds die from 2nd day.
Repeat only on stubborn weeds where necessary after 2nd week.

      • Can this home made solution be used for the general garden as well?

        • yea

        • yes. But do not get it on plants you want, or grass.

    • +1

      I use this https://www.bunnings.com.au/seasol-1l-earthcare-organic-weed…
Most weeds will start to show symptoms of burn within 2 hours. It seems to act on the leaf and work its way into the roots. The solution doesn't stain pavers too (at least mine).

  • The Hoselink one is pretty good, but wait for a sale, we paid $55 with free shipping.

    https://www.hoselink.com.au/products/stand-up-weed-puller

Appears to be the same as this one:

    Seems decent for the price…

I've been looking for a good hoe since I broke up with the ex!

    • +4

      ‘Everything reminds me of her’

    • I've got a smokey old hoe named esmerelda! I think she's the offspring of howard australia, and briggs and stratton US.
She sure aint pretty, and coughs and spits like a trooper…. but damn she did some great hard grinding when requested.
Near the end of a major task digging up moreton bay fig tree roots, she refused all advances unless she had a snort of ether first…. then she'd make horrendous farts before she got on with the job.
She's got big cast tynes like the claws of a dragon… nothing like the recycled baked bean cans of the ebay rotary hoes.
Would you like to rent her services?

      • If it is free

        • the best bargains are never free

          • @rooster7777: Hand over your ozb badge

            • @HolyCr4p: nooooooooo
I keep seeing free (what is to me) crap like steam games …. I don't think I've ever got an ozbargain freeby.
But things like that DJI mini 3, (nearly) that recent big arsed bluettie combined behemoth, chinese cars at 30% discount, now you're talking!
Though on second thoughts… an image of old charlie for darts direct from the local MP may be one freeby worth having.
I got distracted for 5 minutes on the debate between freebie and freeby!

I literally just brought this last weekend. It’s great by the way.

    • +1

I’ll probably just leave mine at home, but good to know you can bring it on the road.

  • How does this differ from a wedding?

    • +4

Now, what is a wedding? Well, Webster's dictionary describes a wedding as: "The process of removing weeds from one's garden".

      • Took me a while… but probably still not completely get the joke…

      • +1

One of my friends actually used that in his best man’s speech but then made it work

Sadly it didn’t end with $5 get outta here :-(

  • Thanks OP, got one.

  • I have weeds in between driveway concrete tiles would it work in that situation

    • +1

      No
I’d just go roundup and call it a day.

This more for when the weeds are in the lawn and you don’t want to kill off your grass, or in the garden and you don’t want to contaminate the surrounding ground or plant

I used to spray - now I used pre emergent and post emergent selective weed killer. Sorted,

  • +2

Coles special catalogue has similar item. May be Bunnings price matching them.

    • but Bunnings gives out life time warranty (better save the screen shot)

  • +1

About 1/3 of the reviews says it breaks easily.

  • +1

Buy the Fiskars one. Much better.

    • +1

+1 Got one a few years back. Have recommended to a few people and they like it too.

      • I really liked my Fiskar, but the plastic bar that is pulled up when you eject the weed eventually broke for me. Lasted years though. Interested to see if this design overcomes that issue.

  • Hmm, is it much better than a little thing
    https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-q7xwx9ggxf/images/stencil/12…

Mostly we get Clover-like ones that kinda spread out. We have to carefully lift them to find the middle stalk.

  • +1

not eligible for free delivery, exceed parcel size. :(

    • +2

i feel like i have been ripped off by OnePass

      • did u at least get the discounted onepass? i'll be dropping mine on expiry, but atm im already ahead with 4 orders from kmart.

        • only Express Click and Collect.

  • All the reviews on bunnings state the plastic cracks very easily, which I can even see it flexing in the video. Doesn't look like the best design imho.

  • Why would you use this over a selective weed spray?

    • Which one is a good selective spray that works on wide variety (if such a thi ng)? Serious question.

    • This is my question as well?

  • I don't know why this tool is so popular? Surely people have more then a few weeds and this is not practical. When I weed I have about 20-30 of them to do.

    • for me, personally, anything to give myself another 1-5 business days of will to live

      • I like to get the Daily News!

      • So this manual weeder gives you another few days of will to live?

    • Can you propose a faster and easier way to remove 20-30 weeds besides round-up?

  • Thanks OP, just the thing i need.

  • i don't know if this is a good thing but I put my order in and they didnt have stock. They said they've substituted the cyclone one with the Fiskars one. win?
