PC Recommendations to Replace 2014 iMac

I'm looking to replace my extremely slow 2014 iMac.

Eyeing a mid-range PC with an aesthetic monitor under $1500 total. Would you suggest buying a mini PC and a nice monitor or go with an all-in-one PC?

Suggestions would be very appreciated.

What do you use the machine for?

      OzBargain

  • Invoicing, quoting, accounting, web browsing. So no gaming.

    Is this any good?

Honestly, I wouldn't - the 27" FHD screen is big detractor as the text will be quite large, impacting things like how many excel rows you can see at once. For context, it's likely that your old iMac has a much much better screen than this new one.

I would suggest buying a powerful miniPC (they're tiny these days - and can sometimes be mounted to the back of a monitor), and a much better separate monitor in whatever size/resolution/flat vs curved you like.

I've done invoicing, quoting, accounting and web browsing on a pentium 3.

      • Luxury.

Will you consider an iMac M1? They sell for around $1K pre-owned

    • More like $1300-$1500

      • Sure if you want an M3, but M1 street price is under $1K

        • OK, well I haven't seen any iMac M1s under $1200. Most are $1300-$1500.

One of those refurbed micro towers/mini PCs that get posted here often should be pretty good, then you can spend a bit more on a better monitor (you want at least QHD at 27")

Mac mini and a half decent monitor sounds like it'd be the easiest route. IMO all in ones sound nice, but reality is the PC inside it becomes out of date before the monitor does (usually).

PC is a toxic wasteland, you should stick with Mac. Even the M1 Mac will blow your 2014 Intel Mac out of the water, it'll feel like a supercomputer.
