I have the chronograph version of this one and it's a very nice solar powered watch.

Have the blue one and its pretty nice. The band is very rattle-y though

  • can someone explain to me how a compass bezel works?

    • It's a fixed bezel so I think it's only for looks.

      • +2

I think that's silly, but I guess I prefer more utilitarian design

If you point North on the bezel at the north pole, it'll tell you which way South, East and West are.

      • +4

Unless you're already at the North Pole in which case every direction is south.

Also, technically not correct (I know you were joking). The North Pole is true north while compasses will reference to magnetic north. This varies depending on where you are located (magnetic variation).

        • Magnetic north? Compasses are powered by Santa's magic, sir.

        Wow, incredible technology

It's a little silly to be honest. You normally can use an analogue watch to figure out where north is, assuming you're not in the tropics. You point the 12 o'clock towards the sun. Half way between the hour hand and the 12 o'clock point is north.

Anyway, the compass bezel just allows you to put something that says north on that point (rather than estimating it) and to be more easily able to determine bearing.

Awesome value for money, it would look good on you WN. A mate got the navy one and I approve.

    I don't need another watch…
    ah damn it

  • Do you know if its quite heavy for an elderly person?

    • No not heavy at all but check the specs.
Anything over 130g-160g considered heavy imo.

      • Thanks.. Found it weighs 170g.. If it's too heavy I might gift it myself

        • I mean, isn't that another reason to strap mod?

          • @Speckled Jim: Yeah just get a rubber or nato strap. Didn't think they were heavy watches being thin and eco-drives.

@G-rig: Thanks.. Got a mail its getting shipped… Will see how it goes..

      • 11mm though so it wouldn't be top heavy

I'm amazed by the battery in eco drives. My mum bought me an eco drive about 25 years ago when I was in high school. Used to be my daily watch until maybe 2010ish. Been in its box in a drawer since. Recently I got back into watches, so I took this watch out of the box and of course it wasn't working. I left it out in sunlight of see if the battery would charge (wasn't expecting it to with the battery being left empty for over a decade). I was surprised that not only did it start working, it holds its charge well (hasn't died overnight or anything). All on the original battery!

  • I got one of these during the sale, I'm really loving it. I have quite a thin wrist and it still looks good on me

Nice change from my Fitbit which I was ultimately just using as a pedometer anyway
