Note that iPhones sold directly by Kogan are international models with no support for Facetime audio and eSIM.

No ACL coverage either, so just the one year limited warranty.

      • +8

And the warranty is a Kogan warranty, not an Apple warranty. They're well known for having a bad warranty system.

      • That is simply not true. Sold here, acl applies. Period.

        • +2

ACL applies to your purchase from Kogan, best of luck with that fight.

          • +3

@Cu5ter: Which is ACL coverage, and is far more than 1 year. You absolutely do not need to go back to the manufacturer for warranty at any point in a products reasonable life, and it's a fineable offense for a company to claim that you do. Ask MSY.

It's a cut and dry "fight", the moment you file in vcat/qcat etc they'll back down, and a pattern of complaints will eventually put a stop to that behaviour. It costs almost nothing, and you'll get that back.

People just need to know the process. Unfortunately some are so incredibly blind to their rights that they'll downvote truth on social media, christ.

            • @Ademos: That’s fair, and Apple will usually be happy to provide you written confirmation of major or minor faults to support the argument.

            • +1

@Ademos: Don't worry, I gave you my vote
You'll get negged on this site because the next guy "sounds" more right. Discussion isn't allowed much here it seems

    • Plus, no Apple AUS warranty if I'm not mistaken, &/or ACL protection. You'd have to ship to Kogan / OS to the region it was sold in for the manufactures warranty period, have I got that correct?

      • +1

        Correct

BRAND NEW products come with a 12 month Australia wide warranty. In the unlikely event that you require a warranty repair, we will collect your item, repair or replace it, then return it to you at no charge. We recommend that you keep your original product packaging if possible. In the unlikely event that you require a warranty repair and you do not have the original packaging, you will bear the responsibility for safely packaging your Product for transport and Kogan accepts no liability for any damage that may occur in transit. If your product was exclusively available for shipping to Sydney and Melbourne metro areas, return pick-up would occur from these areas only.

        • you will bear the responsibility for safely packaging your Product for transport

ACL say nope to that. Just declaring that on their site is illegal and slam dunk liability if you choose to contest it.

Apples warranty is worldwide. Doesnt matter where you buy it.

        • +2

Do you want to test that out when the device is activated in a different region than the one it was designated for? Totally different thing if you activated the phone in the region it was meant for and then happen to move overseas or be travelling of course. I know I wouldn’t want to deal with the potential issues as Apple generally tells you to return it to where you bought it from if you didn’t buy from an authorised dealer.

          • +1

@Clarky77: Apple will honour an international warranty for one year no matter where it was activated. Worst case is you may need to wait for certain parts to be ordered in as there are some international variants that aren’t compatible with local parts. One minute into day 366 you’ll be referred back to the place of purchase for any ACL claims. If that place is Kogan/Dick Smith (et al) Apple are generally happy to provide a written report confirming major failures.

          • +1

@Clarky77: I have tested it out having bought a iPhone 15 pro max from Japan and having it replaced while I live in Australia…

            • -1

@ashumz: Totally different if you purchase the phone yourself while on holidays as you’ll be able to show them and explain, the problems arise when it’s imported by a grey market dealer.
I’m sure most of the time Apple will honour the first year regardless esp as the warranty is stored on the actual phone which is linked to your Apple ID but it’s something I wouldn’t want to rely on, of course if you buy apple care then the whole thing is kinda mute.

      They lost me at ‘Kogan’

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/166459100184?var=466104215870

There was a $100 voucher for ebay plus user make it for $1629

Iphone 16 just got announced today, so I'm sure the local AU stock for iphone 15 range will be discounted from all retailers

    • Yeh, I’ll see if any go on sale before they vanish

  • Honestly better off waiting 1-2 months and buying a really good secondhand one, there are always many people who upgrade yearly even though they aren’t heavy users and with the ability to check battery health and uptime easily these days it doesn’t take much to find one of those really well looked after phones. I’d rather do that that purchase a grey import esp given the many stories online of bad customer/warranty service from places like Kogan.
I mean the likelihood your iPhone will have problems is very low but in the rare case you do have problems do you want to roll the dice on a $1500 device? I know I don’t.

    • What does checking on uptime tell you about the battery or usage?

The Motorola was a better deal.

Does 90% of what this can do, costs $200…

    • i'm always amazed at these comparisons. Do you go to supercar stores and tell people they can buy a Kia that does 90% of what this car can do and costs just 10%? Some people actually do need that 10% and happy to pay the premium.
