be warned about the suede boots. i have this exact pair in wide fit that i bought some months ago. i also purchased the suede cleaner from RM williams. when applying the cleaner to my boots it made a huge stein and did not come out. i have sent the boots back to RM williams for inspection of the boots and cleaner - awaiting an update.

seems like more trouble than it is worth

yes i wouldnt buy suede again. i have had no issues with the comfort craftsman leather pair.

    • Counter point, I've had suede Comfort Craftsmans for about a decade, my newest pair was bought five years ago, and never had a single problem cleaning it with their spray, though I think Saphir's cleaner is better. Suede is pretty easy to look after and RM use suede from the same quality tanneries other premium bootmakers do, e.g. C.F. Stead.

I was watching a tear down of these the other day. I think its the same shoe.

Dude says the shoes are a disgrace @ the $600 price point, and should probably half that price.

      US$600 = AUD$900.

$389.40 is more than half off what he was paying for Comfort Craftsmans in the US market, so it's a good deal even by his flawed standards.

      • Yep they also don't cost $600, they cost $539 retail in the US on RM's site. He got the price wrong, among many other facts.

Lots of factual problems with this review. It's been done to death on /r/goodyearwelt and probably on here every time this crops up, but in summary, he's super misinformed and biased, I wouldn't take that review that seriously. The Comfort Craftsman has always been made this way since long before his original video where he praised RM, and is their most popular boot by a mile because it's super comfortable and lasts ages. $389 is a great price for these, $300 RRP is a joke and he places absolutely no value on Australian labour, yet he's quick to defend American labour prices. If you want a foreign made boot, there are plenty of other brands to look at.

      • The fact is the quality has declined & price has increased!

The price has increased, and I won't defend $650 retail, personally I think $500 is a fairer price. But the quality hasn't declined, at least in a customer facing way. They're still made the same today as they were since way before his earlier video. He's comparing the comfort to the classic, both are still available and both are clearly advertised. The comfort uses a poron microfibre insole because it's more comfortable, like a sneaker. While it is theoretically less durable than veg tanned leather (which, again, is still used in the classic model) it does seem to last an exceptionally long time, and can be replaced with a relast. Same goes for the celastic toe and fibreglass shank, both offer benefits he conveniently ignores because he prefers all leather construction. There are benefits to some of these design choices that make the comfort more popular than the classic.

Do I think the boots are perfect? No, he was right to criticise the flimsy heel pad, though functionally it works, and it has been in use for decades. It could be leather, like on the classics. Would I prefer a replaceable insole like on the Dynamic Flex, yes. But are they bad boots? (profanity) no, they still last decades and they're still well constructed.

I'd disagree with you on this, but not for the Rose Anvil reasons. My experience with RMW is not a decline in construction methods, but a decline in QC - boots that should not be leaving the factory as firsts making it into retail channels.

This isn't such a problem if you're in Australia and have access to their retail stores, where they've been very good about fixing issues, and where you can pick through boots to make a pair that works for you - but if you're overseas, there's no way you should be buying these, you'd be shipping them back to Australia for fixes for issues that should never have been a problem.

  • Vape suede better these days

Watched a Yank on YouTube who cuts things in half and pulls them apart for review.

RM are an embarrassment to Aussie Made

Your same comment as the last thread lol.
      They are fine for 350_400$

A lot of made in USA stuff is shit anyway, they could talk an hour about nothing and you'd believe it.

      • -1

A lot of made in USA stuff is shit does not mean Aussie made needs to be shit as well!

        • Yeah true, it's just that I'd take whatever they say with a grain of salt as a lot of them love the sound of their own voice.

Anyway they should be better quality than most other shoes with glued soles like hush puppies and JM's, im sure it evens out over the years and you can replace parts.

It's just the price rises that are rude, but what isn't at least 30% more expensive in the last few years.

    • And your alternative is?
