Returning an Item to France with an International Courier

Good day team, does anyone have any positive experience with returning items to France with a particular courier?

I bought a handbag which I didn't expect to turn out a different shade of colour when received as compared to the website. I've contacted the company and long story short, they noted I would have to return it out of my own pocket as a change of mind as the colour of the product they noted is based on daylight which would show a different shade of colour. Hmmm indeed.

Anyways does anyone have positive experience with any courier companies when shipping overseas?

Most the ones I've found will charge upwards of $100 to get the item back to them in France for a refund.

It cost me @$80 to send a carton to NZ a few years back, so that's probably a good price. I did some shopping around, and i recall TNT via interpatcel were the cheapest, Pack n send were more expensive as well as auspost.

Here is my previous post that may help.

Maybe kind of off topic - but CRI (colour rendering index) makes a HUGE difference.

I used to think it was all bullshit until a client of mine asked me to take two white formal button up dinner shirts out into the sun and compare the whites.
When i walked outside into the sun, it was literally insane - one was WHITE, and the other was CREAM.
When I walked back inside under the cri 80 leds , they looked literally identical.
This dude had no joke, at least 10 different shades of white on hand.

I mean c'mon. Surely you know to ask for the beige, the off-white, the ivory or the bone?

      • Me: hey do you have any shirts in white?

        Menswear shop owner: sweating

  • Thanks for the information. Any conversation is great cheers.

Yeah this is an interesting one indeed. Whilst they may say it's daylight. The photos shown on websites seemingly are photos taken from indoors which was kind of misleading all the same.

It's a fight im resigned to losing and will now learn not to buy expensive items from overseas without seeing the item.

The listing was for ivory white and when seen indoors can be suggested as grey colour instead

    Oh well live and learn

Yeah not defending them or anything but this is why many clothing places have disclaimers about representation of colours, especially when there’s literally so many variations possible when it comes to what device, what monitor, what does the editor supposed to colour correct for and how will other devices need to be Calibrated etc - what light etc

  • That's cool thanks for your views we have been asking many ppl what colour they see it as and getting mixed feedback lol. I just wonder how this company were able to make their photos of the bag look so much whiter indoors. There would be no sunlight inside a room indoors one would think. Maybe there is some editing I suspect. Sadly to the eye of the beholder my partner she sees it more Grey colour which is another interesting topic as well…as they sell a Grey colour variation of the bag. It's to a point she is convinced they have sent the wrong colour lol

    • It's to a point she is convinced they have sent the wrong colour lol

Haha prob not totally impossible - proof would be via whatever the tag said I guess… assuming the factory had good cri lighting haha

    🚢

  • Why not use international post?

If the colour shown is questionable (and they havent disclosed the colour is with sunlight), why not insist they pay return postage. If they decline you can lodge a credit card dispute for 'goods not as described'.

  • change of mind as the colour of the product they noted is based on daylight which would show a different shade of colour.

Out of interest, have you taken it outside to see what it looks like int he sun? Does it match the photos?

  • Yup it's still around $100 for international post.

Their argument after sending them the photos is they have sold many of the same bag before but never had a report of this colour issue before. This is after I have sent them photos indoors and outdoors.

It does look closer to the colour in natural sunlight but still not the same.

Good point jm7 I may look into a credit card dispute. Hmmmm

  • Sadly the bag has no tag with the colour or model number otherwise I could potentially relate it to being sent the wrong colour

  • $100 sounds cheap. Have you tried OZpost?

  • Used https://parcelcompare.com/ to send a tea carton to the UK a couple of years ago might be worth a go?
Unfortunately colour can be subjective and they might have used indoor lighting/stage lighting to simulate a brighter colour for their website. Is there anything on there that suggests this?

    the dress is gold!

    • no blue

  • Thanks for the update. My partner has the bags and photos.

As I initially created the post to discuss gauge international postal services recommendations, feedback from everyone has helped build ammunition I should not simply return and follow that approach.

I have since raised a dispute case with my bank and will see if they can be of any help.

It probably could amount to nothing in the end but can't hurt anyway.

Will provide updates if there are any.

  • Yeah responding to Randxyz123, on the web page it mentions it as ivory white where the shade of white is similar to the white colour as a as the same tone as a white car.

However, when the partner and friends look at it, they see it as more grey.

Unfortunately the company does not sell this specific bag anymore.

  • Spending $100 out of our pocket is prob not worth us returning it. At the same time partner doesn't like returning gifts. It's definitely a tricky discussion getting her to 'return' a gift I bought lol.

However, I see it if she doesn't like it, why keep it and have it sitting in the room being unused.

  • Well as an update, our credit card company has sided with the merchant. No big surprise there but worth the exercise in trying. Thanks everyone for their opinions thoughts throughout this mess. Cheers
