Dishwasher - Auto Pop Open Door

Hi all, our old Miele just died and we're looking for a new dishwasher. Has to be a built in type.

We really want the feature where it pops open the door to help it all dry.

We've landed on 2 main choices, looking for feedback.

Bosch series 8 https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/bosch-serie-8-un…

Asko https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/asko-60cm-classi…

Asko has a model a couple of hundred cheaper and one that's a bit more expensive. Asko has 5 year warranty v Bosch 2 years.

We also liked the control panel on top so little 11 month old can't fiddle.

Happy for feedback

  • I've got a Bosch, different model, but its been great for the last 2 years. Also, if you use RinseAid, drying isn't an issue. I run mine overnight and its fine when I open it in the morning. Only ever have an issue with a bit of heat/steam when we are running back to back loads which only happens on the weekend.

Wait until they can walk and reach it…… My daughter used to love turning off the Foxtel Box. Never had an issue with the Dishwasher.

Not interested in another Miele; with auto-open and 10-year warranty? Do you not already own a cabinet front to re-fit?

    • Not sold on their physical front buttons and inside rack design. Their 10 year warranty is good though

You'll need to choose something fully-integrated to get top controls. The two on your shortlist have front controls.

    • LOL But have you seen the price of the units with a 10 year warranty!!??

      • As low as $1500?

        • Then buy one!!

  • What about this one from IKEA. https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/renodlad-integrated-dishwasher-…

The house we just bought has one and it’s been great. Controls are completely hidden and the door pops open when done.

    • Is that a rebranded Polish built Dishlex? If so they're a good machine.

  • Have a Bosch 8 series too. Pretty good so far. All connects to wifi too so you could activate over the phone if you are out, etc.

  • Another upvote for the Bosch. We have the fully-integrated Series 8 and its been great. (hey that rhymes!)

  • Is it necessary? It won't help with puddles on top of concave cup bottoms. Might be a handy visual indicator that the wash is done and ready to unload tho.

  • I ordered the base model Miele G 5000 BKi CLST Active Integrated dishwasher - it came to $1484 after some 10% discount and with a 5 year warranty
This particular unit does not have the auto-open door feature.

As far as the dishwasher itself, it is no better than my old Miele g641 - in fact it is in someways worse.

To get a better energy 'rating', they basically reduce temperatures and drying/heating - which means there is a fair bit of moisture retained in the dishwasher which will be particularly evident on anything plastic.

Interestingly though, if you read the huge manual and go right to the back, they have some special 'settings' that basically re-enable all the good stuff to get better cleaning/drying results - with the disclaimer then that they energy rating no longer applies. Turning all the good stuff on then leads to a pretty similar result to my old Miele.

I feel a dishwasher that did auto open the door would get a better result as far as the moisture dissipating - but at the same time, you still need a decent heating element.

One thing I do like about the basic Miele models is the serviceability of many of the internals. They are somewhat like the toyota's of dishwashers.

    • I think the G series features an updated design to improve longevity. Miele expects their dishwashers to last up to 20 years compared with Bosch 10–12. My previous Miele faulted after 15 years, repairable but at high cost. I updated when I could find one at their outlet showroom.

  • We have the Bosch Series 8 fully integrated. Had it for about 2 years now and it's been great. The efficient dry function will automatically pop open the door and works well. We thought the little light that projects the wash function and time remaining on to the kitchen floor below the dishwasher was going to be a gimmick, but sometimes it's and is genuinely so quiet, without this function you wouldn't know it was on until you opened the door to a faceful of steam. The integration with the mobile phone app, setting wash cycles and alerts you can get is great, but it's also pretty clever and will give you alerts about machine care and rinse aid on the physical panel, without the app.

As noted above, your links aren't to the fully integrated models.

  • i want a dishwasher with a light in it

I felt appliance envy when visiting a friend who had an illuminated dishwasher. But I'd really like an oven with an integrated camera.

And a glass door to keep an eye on things.

  • Whirlpool any good? Such as WFO3033PLAUS?

  • Go one better with the comfort lift Electrolux
