BOQ Home and Contents Insurance, Good or Bad?

RACV Insurance jumped $100 per month so I started shopping around,

RACV is now $380/month and BOQ came in at $180/month with a higher home and contents figure (500,000/50,000)? massive red flag or should I just swap over?
This is using Comparethemarket (any other suggestions welcome)
For reference this is for 3759, Panton Hill Victoria

  • massive red flag

Why? Just because you shopped around for once?

    *read the PDS for comparison.

    • Just hear constant horror stories of cheaper insurance companies not paying out, I generally shop around for everything but I was surprised because most insurances say $300+ yet BOQ is under $200, cant seem to find any real reason in the PDS

        insurance companies not paying out

This is unfortunately the aim for most insurance companies. Most of them are a 'for-profit' business after all.

  • RACV seems ridiculously expensive rather than BOQ being cheap

  • I have Honey insurance from a previous deal, pretty good price though. Use the referral link to get a $100 gift card. You can get a free smart sensor pack to get further discount.

    • I just got a quote with Honey and it was over 250% more expensive than the next most expensive quote I have gotten while comparing. Actually ridiculous.

  • Not sure about RACV but here in queensland RACQ is super expensive for most insurances, with much less insured value.

For my I purchased for $18k, they offered at most $14k cover, with a really high repayment. AAMI cover for the price i want or more, for like 2/3 the cost of RACQ.

  • Go BOQ. However, on renewal they will jack up their rates and you will need to shop around again. This is true of most insurers.

  • Usually there is one key difference that can make a big difference is accidental damage cover, racv usually have this whilst boq and their other suncorp sub tend to not cover. So if you have the tendency to break your windows or accidentally forgot to turn off the oven every now and then consider if your ass is covered.
