amaysim Expired Plan Stuck on Talk and Text Only - Cannot Use PAYG Data

Hey everyone, is there a new feature whereby Amaysim limits your PAYG credit to talk and text only if you have chosen an unlimited plan?

I noticed in the CIS it states:

If your plan expires and it is not renewed, you will default to a Talk and Text Only status. While in a Talk and Text Only status, you may continue to use voice and SMS services at the As You Go rate, but data and international services will not be available. While in a Talk and Text Only status, you may elect to purchase any new amaysim mobile plan.

Meh?

This is a significant downgrade, and it seems like you can’t switch back to PAYG because it just errors out when you try to change the plan to the PAYG plan again. The only way to return to the standard PAYG is by porting out. Has anyone found a fix for this, or is it an intentional feature?

    found a fix for this

    Renew before expiration date?¿

  • After login Amaysim in my Chrome mobile browser, I chose "Change plan". Under "4G plans", choose "$0/365 days AS YOU GO", tap "Choose this plan" at the bottom, then tap "Confirm and pay". My payment method is Paypal.

So, I can still change the plan of "TALK & TEXT ONLY" from my previous sim card (3 numbers in the account) to "AS YOU GO".

    • That worked for me before, but only because I had $0 in PAYG credit.

This time, I had accumulated some PAYG credit since I had been overseas for a few years.

I see that when switching to the PAYG plan it mentions that you will lose all your inclusions. I suppose I'm okay with that since the data isn't working anyway, and it would be better to reset it earlier rather than later. I'm not sure how long it will take to use up $40+ in credit. However, when I click on confirm, the popup appears, and then there is a red ! symbol next to the first of four spinning icons.

If trying out an Unlimited plan results in losing all your credit, that seems like a really poor marketing strategy. I know Aldimobile keeps the ordinary unlimited plans separate from the PAYG credit.
