  • Time to upgrade the switch storage :D

    • +1

      Which ones best for switch?

      • I have been looking into getting one for my switch and according to nintendo the switch supports up to 95 MB/sec, so anything above 100 is wasted on a switch. I personally am waiting on a sale for the sandisk ultra 1tb as it went down to around $80ish last time.

      • +1

        These work great.

        https://www.amazon.com.au/Patriot-Memory-Android-Tablets-Rec…

A1 U3 Class10, and from a huge memory manufacturer. Can't go wrong IMO; have them in phones, cameras, switch and car head unit for maps.

        • +1

I've used a lot of Patriot cards and have had a few fail or DOA, which is to be expected. Having said that, if you're going to be spending $122.99 for the Patriot 1TB, you may as well get this Samsung for $130.03. For the 512 in a switch, I'd buy the Patriot for significantly less.

          • +1

@Soapdroid: Yep agreed; large 'premium priced' cards on special; the Samsung makes more sense.

At 512GB, theres no going past the $40 or so price point, and you don't even have to look at no-name brands to do it.

Does this work for Viofo A229+?

    • +3

Just get the PRO ENDURANCE EPIC ONE from Sandisk and Samsung. Save yourself the headache of having to replace it because it dies from all the constant writing

    • +1

For dashcam, get the extreme/endurance type of MicroSD, from Sandisk, Samsung, etc.

There's a lot of read/writes to handle and also the temperatures in the car, get very hot in summer.

      • Does high endurance work?

        • +1

All the MicroSDs work in Dashcams.
It's just that if you want longevity in your MicroSD card, in the Dashcam,
then look for the ones with "extreme" or "endurance" in its branding,
and get the brands such as Sandisk or Samsung.

          • +1

@whyisave: think the question was - is high endurance just a marketing gimmick?

            • +1

@0jay: I don’t believe it is. I don’t have a dash cam, however regular micro sd cards in a Raspberry Pi have had a habit of failing within 12 - 18 months in my experience. Similar issue where there’s a lot of ongoing I/O since Home Assistants writing logs etc constantly with the various adding I have. Devices with endurance cards have fared better. I tend to use an SSD though now for that use case.

              • @Smigit:

                I don’t believe it is

Yeh I tend to agree, just thought @whyisave was answering the wrong question

            • +2

              @0jay: Each brand differs.

High Endurance in Sandisk is still QLC memory; however their Max Endurance range is TLC again.

You really have to research brand to brand.

  • +2

It will but endurance microSD cards are recommended for dash cams.

  • thanks. good deal

  • Can someone please explain to me why I can buy a terabyte of storage the size of my fingernail for cheaper than a standard SSD?

    • +3

ssd read write speeds should be much faster than these, as well as less prone to errors.

but yea, for the size these are a modern wonder

    • +1

SSDs are way cheaper for the price/GB, I don't get what you mean. There's also thumb drive style SSDs that are pretty small and get you 1000-2000MB/s read/write - it's also extremely easy to get an M.2 NVME and enclosure to put it in, takes 5 minutes max. If anything I'm shocked microSD cards are still this expensive (ignoring the flash memory price hike in recent times).

    • Also, microSD cards are not good for prolonged reads and writes. I just copied out 250GB of data from a Transcend microSD card, and now it is showing as read-only, which is DEAD. Even an SD card fares better, I believe because of the large physical size which helps it spread the heat out.

    • Cant say I can find a 1TB sd card for under $100 like is easy for an SSD.

What SD are you comparing to?

  • suitable for steamdeck?

  • +1

I'd avoid these cards like the plague… had three 512GB cards, one stopped working and only reported as being 7-8 GB in side… another although it works shows on both my DJI Mini 4 Pro and DJI Osmo Action 3 camera as being a slow card and therefore won't work - and also have a 256GB card from this range that does the same thing.

    • Mine have been fine. Haven’t done a speed test but were ok on a gaming device. Capacity has been as stated. Mix of 512GB, and from memory, 256GB ones.

    • there's always a risk of counterfeit items if you're not very careful what you're buying and who's the seller

    • +1

I avoid them online purely because they're the most counterfeited.

If you can be sure theyre genuine (like price matching at a Samsung Shop) they're amazing.

I prefer brands I can buy direct from the manufacturers online storefront.

Ive had good luck with Patriot, for example.

    • These were purchased legit from Amazon US and I think also Amazon UK (via Amazon AU) during a couple of their flash deals, which is why I was quite disappointed when they failed - got some use out of them, but it was only after about 6 months of use when they started showing errors. Was using them with my DJI Mini 4 Pro and Action 3 cameras, both showed them as low speed cards and wouldn't allow me to record on them. Might give the 1TB a go - at least it's cheap (ish) and at least I know Amazon will refund if need be.

  • Still blows my mind a micro SD card can hold 1TB (and more). Know they're not the fastest but it's still pretty amazing

    • +1

Yep, something so tiny can hold so much data. It's great, but also highly frustrating when you misplace one (or one breaks) and it's full of data.

  • Just bought the 1TB card. I ordered the Retroid Pocket 5 so this will be perfect for it.

    • Did you get it? Is it working fine?

      • I bought the Evo Select 1TB. Hard to say if it works since the Retroid Pocket 5 isn't released until end of month.

        • Thanks for response, have you also verified the capacity is 1TB ? and is not like fake ones?

          • +1

@OzzyBizzy: No i haven't opened it up yet. I'll do it next month when i get the pocket 5 and will let you know.

            • @a l an: Thanks, mine also comes next week, just hoping it works as intended.
