Instore they have a buy 5 for extra 5% off buy 10 for 10% off which works out quite well for the bars

    • thanks for this tip! May acquire some extra bars when picking up then!

    • +1

FWIW I went to two different chemist warehouses whilst stocking up and the first didn’t give the 10% off for 10+, figured they must have stopped it. Second store however still applied the 10% off - so maybe remind/check the cashier applies it.

  • +1

Do people still buy Musashi? I wonder how it compared to all the other generic protein brands out there?

    • +14

The 90g protein bars are somewhat unique, as they contain around 45g protein whereas most others provide around 20g. I also think the other stats in terms of carbs, sugars, calories, malitol etc.. are quite good for my purposes - someone on a low carb diet aiming to avoid too many calories, avoid sugar and not eat more than an average amount of fat, especially for the cookies and cream and chocolate versions.

The taste is so so, it's not a key reason why I buy it.

      • +1

A lot of the 45g protein is collagen, look at the ingredients label. Definitely misleading to say the 45g is double the 20g of others.

        • +1

There's a number of types of protein in the bar, including collagen. It is ok for my purposes, but might be of concern to a weight lifter.

        • There is more calcium caseinate than collagen, and collagen is good to combine with protein for muscle connective tissue health.

        • +2

Saving people a click, breakdown as follows:

Musashi High Protein Blend (54%) [Calcium Caseinate, Hydrolysed Collagen Protein, Soy Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate, Soy Protein Nuggets, Emulsifier (471)]

      • Bought a bunch of them and they tasted terrible like cardboard lol

    • Label check shows it has quite a low protein content.

Highest at Chemist Warehouse is Vital Strength, which is best protein/$ ratio when on sale.

But at half price, Musashi is pretty good value.

    • I only get their protein bars because of the $/protein amount compared to other bars. Dont expect to enjoy them as much as a regular chocolate bar but if youre buying them you probably value nutrients over flavour. I do suggest the rocky road version, its my fav with double choc brownie a second

Protein powder give me the smelly farts

    • -1

all of them or specifically musashi? Casein protein is bad for that or if you have too much WPI every day but for the most part if you're not over consuming people don't get this issue.

      • For me especially Musashi

        • -1

do you have issues with all?

      • I only tried thr plant based mussashi. I was having 1 scoop per day and it was a messy affair. Others are too expensive to buy and hope it suits. Not many give samples to try

  • +4

I have bought all flavours of the musashi protein bars.
Peanut Butter - just tastes like eating a more dry peanutbutter out of the jar.
Cookies n Cream - ehh its okay.
    Chocolate - good
    Caramel - good

45g protein for 300cals is pretty good. $2.70 per bar if they give you the 10% off is pretty damn good.

  • I imagine these are a healthier choice over a 50gm pack of pork crackle?

    Idea being a protein snack.

    • Protein to ratio wise pork crackle is far worst I would think. Beef jerky is probably a better option.

      • +3

Crackle is actually exceptionally high in protein by weight. It's over 50% protein.

The problem is that it's full of salt and the fat that remains is problematic.

Jerky has a lot more sugar, and a lot more salt. It's even worse.

Whey is probably your best source of supplemental protein. The 100% Whey product is good.

Can anyone comment on whey protein powder Musashi and how it compares to International Nutrition Co.?

    • +1

I prefer INC. Less chemically to me

      • I found the opposite for flavours.

Both brands have high quality whey. Musashi adds digestive enzymes that help some people avoid discomfort and farts.

  • Did anyone tried protein water from Musashi? Does it taste good?

    • +1

I personally hate the taste of it. But heard some friends who like it.

  • How long do the sales last?

  • New to creatine. Are the musashi capsules a good option at half-price?

    • +2

I only take the powder version which seems good

    • +5

If you are after Creatine, any "creatine monohydrate" product will do, it's all the same, just go for the cheapest. As for the capsules, I personally prefer powder because it's easier to consume than the capsules for me, as you'd need 6 capsules / day with the Musashi.
Anything other than creatine monohydrate is just hype.

  • +2

I don't care for their protein products at all, but the Musashi Energy Drinks are very good.

  • I really need to buy some of this!! Thanks for the post

  • Thanks OP, was waiting for a sale.

Note that the high protein version has lower protein percentage than standard

    • What do you mean by this? The high protein bar is 90g with 45g protein (50%). Whereas the other musashi crisp bars are 60g for only 20g protein (33%)?

      • +1

I was referring to the powder not the bars.

  • Which one is more preferred? Compared to INC 100 WPI Vanilla Flavour 2kg now sale at $68.99
