I don't know a whole lot about this collection on vinyl but the price seems good when I did a quick comparison on Google. I stole the info from AcousticSounds which was referred to in a Reddit post. This is a limited time deal, with 2% claimed as of now. If I had a record player I'd possibly get this. I do like Mike Patton and Mr Bungle. Please let me know if I've made any mistakes or if you think you can find a better price.

  • $55 per vinyl album = deal? Vinyl prices are getting beyond ridiculous now!

    • It is what it is I guess. Some places are selling this box set for over $300. Most of the stuff I would want to get on vinyl costs a lot and hardly ever seems to get discounted. Possibly lower print runs and maybe they think people will pay whatever price? I'm super hesitant to get into vinyl.

It’s aimed at the fans. They can squeeze a lot more out of fans than regular folks, let alone bargain hunters.

      • Fans of Bungle or vinyl? I am a Bungle fan, but not much of a vinyl fan given its limitations.

        • Not just vinyl or MB fans; I was just surmising that there’s more money in aiming things at fans and probably larger markups. It’s hard for me to upvote the deal simply because I really don’t the dollar value of vinyl these days. I agree it does seem expensive but considering there are six discs which makes it $27.50 per vinyl or as I think you meant 55 per album.

Edit: in writing this I have convinced myself it deserves an upvote for price and getting 6 remastered LPs in a box set.

          • @qwerks: I haven't bought vinyl in a while, but I don't think I ever paid more than $60 for a new double vinyl album. Point being that $55 per album seems fairly ordinary value to me even when considering the vinyl "tax"! Agree that record companies are milking fans for their money because they can.

I have faith no more in vinyl, compact discs are the future.

    • +2

If only that were true. Alas, it appears that lossy streaming is the way of the future :(

Soulseek & Qbittorrent with the seach configured works pretty good.

        https://github.com/qbittorrent/search-plugins/wiki/Install-s…

        • Thanks, I forgot about Soulseek, haven't used it in years! I prefer Transmission for torrents because I run it off a headless server. Although, when I don't have a CD I usually stream lossless via Tidal and/or Qobuz instead.

Torrents are good for when you want a particular album master that's not available on Tidal or Qobuz (which is usually older albums that have been remastered in crappy low DR) and don't have the CD. However I much prefer to own the CD, which I rip to my NAS then stream around the house. That way I get to have my cake and eat it too! I know exactly which master it is, can verify the rip, enjoy the experience of playing physical media when desired, be independent of streaming service availability, but also have the convenience of streaming on demand.

      I see a patton here…

    • Nice one lol.

  • +1

Wow. I too don’t own a record player and after just learning its existence I am considering ordering it. I do like the box set artwork that seems to use the main elements of the three albums. Very cool in my books. Hearing a remaster would be interesting too. Thanks for the post.

    • There is a cool Fantomas vinyl only? collection too. I'd want to get that too. Fantomas Wunderkammer -

Just looked it up. Looks like it comes with a cassette as well.

      • I’ll have to check that out too now. I missed the Tomahawk vinyl box set they were selling when they last toured here. It literally sold out before I had a chance to really think about it.

        • Are you referring to the Eponymous To Anonymous 2012 box set from Tomahawk?

          • @scooba: That sounds about right. I just remember lining up to the merch area to check it out and seeing a sold out sign across it.

            Edit: Yeah that’s the one

            • +1

@qwerks: Ah that sucks. I remember buying that box set from JBHiFi of all places for $48 and they were happy to let go of it because they said they couldn't sell it.

      • The version of the self titled Fantomas album in the Wunderkammer box set supposedly had some pretty bad problems.

        • Oh really? That's a shame. I won't be buying it anytime soon so I'll have some time to do research if I get into vinyl.

          • @ozbs25: Yep, can't remember where I read about it though?

Funnily enough on Discogs, people are complaining about various problems with the Wunderkammer box.
            See here—->https://www.discogs.com/release/6405247-Fantômas-Wunderkammer

Ipecac presses in general are pretty hit and miss, proceed with caution.

  • Nice one OP, I've been watching this since it's release & I would like it but I'm not the biggest Bungle fan.

Maybe if it drops right down in price I might grab it…

    • Do you think there is a reasonable chance you could get for cheaper? Not having a record player is kinda holding me back but I don’t wanna be kicking myself later.

      • +1

        Yep I think there's a chance, I'm thinking around the $100 mark.

Why haven't you got a turntable?

        • It’s just never happened. My ol’ man has one and a huge, no massive, classical LP collection. Maybe I’m just still rebelling but more likely just trying to avoid an expensive hobby. That or I still have a childhood trauma of getting my favourite records all scratched up and hearing too many pops and scratches.

          • @qwerks: If you like music a lot, sometimes it's a nice a way to enjoy it.

Records aren't too difficult to care for. My rule of thumb is it's either in it's sleeve and jacket or on the turntable & always handle them by the edges and centre label because if you don't, cleaning them by hand or giving them a bath can be a pain in the ass.

        • And cheers for your tip

          • @qwerks: This is pretty new too. Maybe give it a bit and if stores have trouble selling it the price will come down?

            • @ozbs25: Thanks. I think I’ll wait. I’m happier knowing it exists and I’ll certainly keep an eye on it. Maybe I can get my hands and ears on it.. one day.

              • @qwerks: @ozbs25 is right.
Not to long ago I saw the 5LP box set of the Tool album Fear Inoculum in a record shop and it was half price for $150 down from $300.

          • @qwerks: 👍🏻

      • Why would you want this if you don't have a record player?

  • +1

Mike Patton could sing the yellow pages and I'd listen to it.

    80s, 90s thrash metal? On 6 discs!

The deal is 3% claimed… Better get in quick before the other 97%. Lol
