  • IGN gave it 8/10 - so should be great

    • +19

      Lol, super reliable source!

        • +12

In exactly what world can a game publisher and distributor (IGN owns humble) be non-biased?

        • +9

          You're joking right ?

          • +2

@adamshere: Strangely enough, main IGN site these days has reviews that are pretty consistent. Like they were one of the few main places that gave Starfield a logical score (7/10).

            • +2

@Pacify: The same IGN that gave Black Myth Wukong 8/10.

Also gave Dustborn (all-time peak on Steam of 83 concurrent players, including people who were playing the game to meme on it) and Concord (end of service in only 2 weeks after release) each a 7/10.

              • +2

@pj1351: A lot of critics gave Concord a 6 or a 7, Concord didn't fail because it was a terrible game, it failed because the hero shooter is massively over saturated.

                And Wukong was an 8?

          • +7

@adamshere: We are too deep now, I can't tell who is genuine and who is memeing

          • +2

@adamshere: Worked with them worked I worked in video game PR in a previous life, and while I know gamers love to create fanciful stories full of intrigue and conspiracy, they're pretty by-the-book.

Even when they do paid content for a publisher (i.e 'IGN First' videos), these are always caveated that it won't impact the review score in any way, and the publisher understands that.

I still know several of the Aussie writers quite well, and can confirm they're by the book, and nobody tells them what to write.

            • @X2Jason: Taking your post at face value, I seriously question their judgement then.

              • +2

@Bdawg: I also find it funny when fanboys online shout "But IGN gave X game 7 and only X game 8!" as though everyone who works there is a hivemind who has to enjoy and dislike the same things lol. I think people need to remind themselves every review online is the opinion of one person, and is as valid or invalid as anyone else's opinion. People put too much stock in a specific review score. I only ever refer to Metacritic before deciding to buy something so I can get an actual understanding of what is universally accepted as being 'good' or 'bad'.

                • +3

                  @X2Jason:

People put too much stock in a specific review score. I only ever refer to Metacritic before deciding to buy something so I can get an actual understanding of what is universally accepted as being 'good' or 'bad'.

Sure. Let's refer instead to the average metascores of these games:

                  Black Myth Wukong: 78/100
                  W40k Space Marine 2: 82/100
                  Dustborn: 70/100
                  Concord: 64/100

Very little actual difference with IGN's scores, yet in reality a 1,000 fold difference in copies sold comparing Wukong vs Dustborn.

Strange how out of touch professional reviewers are about these games when it comes to "actual understanding of what is universally accepted as being 'good' or 'bad'", compared to those silly "fanboys online".

                  • +1

@pj1351: Because Concord wasn't actually a bad game or anything.

It was just the wrong genre at the wrong time.

No one wanted yet another Hero shooter, and it wasn't F2P.

                  • +2

@pj1351: Sorry - I'm confused what point you're trying to make. Of course some 8/10 games won't sell as well as other 8/10s, it's going to come down to marketing and whether it's AAA/AA (or AAAA right Ubisoft?) the genre, etc.

I was more just making light of how some online pundits equate game reviews to others, despite being reviewers, different genres etc, it makes no sense.

                • @X2Jason: In any industry, there's plenty of stuff that is "good" that doesn't sell for shit. And there's plenty of absolute garbage that sells.

                  Humans are weird.

        • It's like the Userbenchmark of gaming

    • +3

IGN gave wukong 8/10. so this one should be great too.

    • +4

      IGN gave Concord 7/10.
If we trust them this game would be just slightly better than Concord (which was completelly cancelled and refunds are in place, because of very poor player reception)

      • +1

Have you played concord? Concord isn't a bad game - it just offers nothing new in a saturated market.

      • What does Space Marine 2 have to do with Concord? Both have guns, and Space Marine 2 has a multiplayer mode, sure. But they're quite different games by two different people, so they can't be compared. It's like comparing my review of Jurassic Park to your review of Forrest Gump, would be a weird comparison!

  • +16

    FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!

  • +2

nice to see a discount for a game i've been waiting and excited for!

  • +1

Ooo cheers. This is on the watchlist.

  • +1

i must hold out for ultrawide and framegen support

    • framegen can die in a fire for all i care.

    • No ultrawide support?

      • not yet, on their roadmap for sometime this month

  • is this site reliable?

    • +27

      We'd like to think so

      • Checking the Discord it seems alot of people have to wait for "manual verification".

I want to buy the gold edition (3 codes for me and my 2 mates), will I receive the codes today to load it up? or am I going to have to wait till the official release date?

        • -1

Hey, we're waiting for the publisher to send over the keys, they should do it within the next few hours, will keep you in the loop! Regarding manual review - the vast majority of orders never get flagged, but it's a necessary evil to prevent fraud I'm afraid

        • For what it's worth I got the Gold edition and it went through immediately. The key was unlocked 12am AST and I've already downloaded it on Steam.
Haven't run it yet to test I have the proper early access from Gold, but Steam tells me it's a Gold edition key.

    • YES, it is

    • +6

GamersGate has been around for donkeys years, and from my memory is one of the original legitmate online/digital key sellers. They don't resell keys / are not a marketplace (like cd keys or g2a etc).

Highly recommend. I have used them since 2009.

  • +1

The code also works for Gold and Ultra editions.

    @GamersGate

So whats going on??? legit site? i made a legit purchase and getting "Your order has been selected for manual review."

    maybe hold your orders boys….

    • +6

Most likely checking to make sure that you're not buying with a stolen credit card, or anything like that. Often happens with the more legit sites when you are a new member.

    • Gold and ultra are just extra skins right? Plus they are the only editions to have early access I believe.

I just ordered, paid with Paypal. All good from my end, just waiting on the 9th!

      • have you had a account with them previously?

      • Gold and Ultra give you early access from tomorrow.

        • +1

          tonight

    • +5

Hi, just like a commenter below said, we're just checking a couple of things to make sure there's no fraud happening, your order will be complete soon!

        • +4

I would expect it's their payment processor, not them. A seller doesn't have enough data to really identify a transaction as iffy.

I suppose unless you were coming in via a VPN which could get your IP flagged.

          • -6

@incipient: no vpns..just a regular paypal purchase, with a paypal receipt received immediately.

as in I have been charged, they have been paid.

        • -1

lol @ downvotes,… ok I worded it wrong and what I was getting at, that the whole experience (not rep interaction) was unpleasant, as in I wanted to buy the key and move on with my day (that is a normal experience majority of people have) yet I had to come back and enquire about my purchase.

I received the confirmation of my purchase 3 hrs later which is a terrible turnaround. If this is what to be expected it could ruin a game night for others who are employed, not much else to it.
I will claim this key but will be avoiding this mob going forward, everyone can move on and be happy :)

          • @Steakz: downvoted the deal also. It is the 10th and the key is still not available.

            • -1

@Steakz: Hi, the release time was a couple of hours ago, the keys for the Standard Edition are now available.

    • +5

Im watching PirateSoftware stream and he got so triggered at this review. He said the game is atleast 8/10 and is over game journalist giving clickbait reviews to generate ad revenue. Have a look for yourself and make your own opinion, game looks really fun.

      • +8

Dude strawman's the shit out of anything and thinks he's never wrong. He's so self indulged I cannot stand to watch his streams.

Wait a week for more comprehensive reviews and read the Steam reviews, they'll give a better average overall.

      • I’d trust pc gamer over IGN any day of the week. Adult reviews vs children’s

        • +6

They are both literal dogwater-tier "reviewers" and "journalists". They are the Buzzfeed of the video game world. Their journalistic integrity was lost in the early 2000's and now they just churn out crappy clickbait, ragebait or sponsored content. Their websites are unusable without an adblocker because they are so desperate for revenue they have sucked off every advertiser that will have them. Look at their stock price if the picture is painted clearly enough.

They've given so many obviously trash games a "7" so they can maintain their public relations with certain game companies that it's become a meme amongst the community that a 7 is the new 5.

Do not give these people any of your time or ad revenue. Go on youtube and watch reviews from gameranx or ACG if you want actual holistic reviews. There are other smaller channels (like Aussie creator Skill Up) too, but those are good major sources.

          • +1

@Sporange: Worthabuy is the bestest gamer reviewer. He rarely gets keys because he doesn't lie.

          • +2

@Sporange: Not even mentioning how some of their "journalists" have tried to twist narratives and get drum up fake drama to paint a negative light on certain game developers either purely to farm content, or because they don't align ideologically. Stellar Blade devs unjustly copped it, as did Black Myth Wukong devs. Both very successful video game launches despite the "journalists" best attempts to misquote, break context and manufacture drama for their own twisted view of "social justice".

    • +5

From the reviews, it sounds like a more upgraded version of the first game. I have no issue with that. The first game was a 7 or 8, but I still loved it.

      • sounds good to me, but i think ill wait for a decent discount

        • Curious what a 'decent discount' would be if this isn't it?

          • @misterbung: $70 is still 'new game' price to me, under $50 is where i usually consider it for these situations

            • @perfectlydark: Well I hope you're comfortable waiting 2 years then. The PVP will be non-existent by then.

I do agree 70 bucks doesn't feel like much of a "sale" anymore, but that is the state of AAA gaming, unfortunately.

I personally am still on the fence for similar reasons. The only games recently I've bought at full price were Baldur's Gate 3 and Armored Core 6 last year, and who even knows before then.

              • @Sporange: its all good, im patient. i do like the 40k universe but the style of game is not my favourite to play, so im happy to wait

    • +7

PC Gamer and a lot of other review sites are not reliable now imo - not enough objective review and too much personal biases.
Iceborne review - Complaining about killing monster in a game about killing monsters is totally mind boggling, akin to saying too much farming in Stardew Valley.
Star Wars Outlaws - Rating it so highly when it's at best a mediocre game which pales in many aspects to previous open world ubisoft games.

It probably better to wait for a bigger review compilation to see where SM2 stands, and even then the user reviews (non review bombs) would hold more weight over these game website reviews.

      • -1

Not sure what you’ve been reading but PCgamer only gave Star Wars outlaws a 73. Hardly a “rated so highly “ like you said lmao

I’m an adult pc gamer and also have the consoles. I’d take the serious, nuts and bolts reviews PCgamer give any day of the week over the kid centric casual 15 year old demographic of IGN

        • Isn't 73 high? That's a B+ grade, which means it's above average

          • @ilikeblue: It's Metacritic score is 76, so they are slightly below average for professional reviewers.

        • +3

I consider Mediocre a 50/100, and at 73/100 it's almost an additional 50% in scoring, so yeah - rating it too highly for a mediocre game riddled with AI issues, bad storyline pacing, outdated mission design, among other things shouldn't put it in the 70+/100 scoring, which is a 'Good' score. I think moving forward the pre-orders and sales number will show what most players think of the game. Probably a good thing it didn't release on steam to a mixed score at best or mostly negative score based on the gameplay/bug videos.

I don't think highly of IGN either, but I have not been reading any reviews from these sites for years now so you'd probably know them much better than I. If they don't do a good job they're probably headed the same way as Kotaku AU sooner or later. SM2 is arguably on-par if not better than Helldiver 2 at launch - the score disparity between the two would point to some glaring review standards imo.

At the end of the day if you like how PCGamer handle their reviews then more power to you - enjoy the bolts and nuts of their reviews. I personally can't take the cognitive dissonance of what I'm reading in the work they present.

      • An unbiased review from someone who would be across the lore more than 90% of the folk here.

        https://youtu.be/gcjn8o0nKWI?si=cbuLTgAvErJnC5HE

      • Agreed. And the reviewers that I generally agree with (Press Start Australia for example - 9.5/10) are rating it highly

  • +24

Real OZB'ers will get it for free on Epic 5.4 years from now

    • Real ozb'ers will find it on the high seas 🤦

    • +1

The single-player campaign will be just as good!

  • +3

$59 for standard on my Turkish steam account

    • +1

      $22 from Uzbekistan

      • Got a link?

        • Just pirate it if you're doing region workarounds.

  • +11

Please people, no pre-orders. Wait for ACTUAL reviews AFTER launch

  • +1

Weird, code is invalid for me

    • Weird indeed, what country are you trying to apply this code from?

  • +2

Almost caved and bought but I'm going to be waiting for steam reviews and non journalist reviews, Black Myth Wukong has spoiled me and the standard is higher now. Also I checked Allkeyshop and Black Myth Wukong is a similar price ~$75 on those sites, not sure how I missed it initially!

  • Is this a shooter or rts game?

    • 3rd person shooter, like Gears of War (or the first Space Marine game)

    • -2

      It's a puke shooter.

  • -1

Buyer beware the campaign is only 10 hours long.

    • +1

How long do you want a campaign to be?

      • At least 20+ hours would be nice if I was dishing out full price but will just wait for it to go on sale. 10 hours is a good sesh with my mates and then it's done and forgotten about.

        • -1

Go buy a ubisoft game if you want quantity over quality.

          • @Ahbal: Are you trying to say you can't have both? I can think of many games that have both quality and quantity. What a weird thing to say.

    • +1

Between 10 and 20 hours is normal for shooters these days. Space Marine 2 is a bit short but not too bad.
      https://howlongtobeat.com/stats

  • Only interested in the PvE multiplayer element. Anyone have any thoughts on it?
I watched the trailers and it all kind of looked just….meh.

  • "I shall reinforce this wallet"
    - Royal Dornable

  • hmmmm me leaning towards getting this instead https://gg.deals/game/age-of-mythology-retold/

  • This is a great price, thanks OP.
    But…
If there is anything that the latest batch of AAA releases has taught me is to wait and see what the real reviews are going to be like before buying. Too many highly anticipated games have left us highly disappointed. Starfield, Star Wars Outlaws, COD, just to name a few.

    • +1

      CoD 20 or 25?

  • +3

    for the record, I paid $71.45, not $71.29 :^)

good deal nonetheless, thanks for posting

  • Thanks, when will the codes release, purchased the gold edition

    • Did you get your code?
