I'm stoked with my Sonos gear, but after that recent app debacle, I’m starting to wonder if they’re headed downhill with all these uncertainties about their future

    • +2

What uncertainties aside from the app being a car crash? I think their core business is good, i.e. good surround wifi speakers. The just need to sack their CEO asap, the app is rubbish (but will get fixed), don’t see the point of why they are making earphones apart from fomo that everyone else is doing it and the bricking of devices that they tried a few years back was nasty.

      • +1

The new app was an uncanny experience, mate. I was usin' the old S1/S2 app before, but I’m not gonna invest in their products again if they’re just gonna brick it with another software UX fiasco! IMO.

    • I don't own any of their gear. Quick TLDR of what happened with the app update?

      • +2

Yea i don't get it either - I have Sonos now and it works fine.

It's comments like these that really feed the fire that didn't need to be started in the first place.

  • Thanks OP, been waiting for a deal on th mini!

  • Thank you, OP. I've been waiting for a Sub Mini deal too but it's been lower than this, and after the issues of the past few months, you'd think Sonos would be offering better specials. I'll keep waiting but for anyone with an immediate need 20% off is far better than 0%! 😃

    • +1

Don't sleep on the mini, it's great

      • Not sure whether to thank you for that advice ha ha ha

        Seriously though, thank you. 🙂

With what did your pair the sub mini?

ATM I'm run an Arc by itself for the TV.

        • It's paired to 2x Symfonisk Bookshelf speakers, making a nice wireless 2.1 system for my TV.
It is great for movies but shines for music

  • Wait for JB to price match and stack gift cards

    • +1

From what I can see jb are doing the sale too. Sub mini and era 100's are the same price

  • +1

Still not enough for me to buy, fix ya damn app first.

  • +1

Now to wait for TGG/JB to price match and do a 15% off code

    • Where is this magical code?

  • +1

Rumor of a new Arc and a new Sub launching soon

  • +1

    $545 at Videopro - https://www.videopro.com.au/product/sonos-sub-mini-black/
same price at Harvey Normal, JB and others

Likley plus shipping also mind, so 'similar enough' to not really be a seperate deal

  • Nice deal. Thinking of upgrading from my HomePods to a couple of 300s for my home office.

Anyone have ideas for a cheap but solid stands for them? I got those IKEA lamp stands for the HomePods and something similar would be sweet.

Unless you really dont have the space, i would much rather spend $2k on a proper amp and a pair of bookshelf speakers. I havent heard the Sonos, but i find it hard to believe that a soundbar can compete with a proper hifi setup. Imaging with stereo is the most impressive experience you will get while watching a movie, and if you set up your stereo speakers correctly they will also image the center channel really well. The rear and side channels are just sprinkles. I have a 5.1 speaker setup, but wish i just went with higher quality and 2.0. Or possibly 2.1.

"I havent heard the Sonos, but i find it hard to believe that a soundbar can compete with a proper hifi setup. "

Listen then make that call, im not audiophile but i can not tell the difference between a crazy "amp and proper speaker" setup and I worked in cinemas for a few years fixing cinema speakers.. I have a sonos purely for the audio clarity now because dialogue in most shows is so drowned out it's nuts and they've been the best at doing that, a friend "home theater with bookshelf amp etc 7.1" i still struggle with some shows and movies by comparison to the home Beam gen2 unit.

I'm tempted to upgrade to the Arc unit with mini sub but feel new one is too close

    • does your 5.1 setup support any of the audio formats that fully utilises the channels like atmos or DDP 5.1 etc?

Speaker tech hasn't changed much in a long time, but what has changed is speakers being able to handle meta data to better utilise spatial audio.

Personally, i think you're missing out but it sounds like you need to actually experience not just a 5.1 setup but one that handles the new codecs.

    • We have an arc, but we also have a 12 year old B&W speaker setup that cost nearly 20k. Is the Arc better than the B&W sub? No, but for the price, it is good enough and the difference isn't as big as you would think for MOST people.

  • Not worth buying imo until the app gets fixed.

    • Its mostly fixed now

    • +1

I own multiple Sonos products and rarely use the app.

      • Same here, almost never use it after it’s tuned

  • +1

What do people use the app for? Once I set mine up and set the levels I haven't used it.
I don't have a soundbar but I have 2x Symfonisk Bookshelf speakers and a sub mini and use it as my speakers thru Apple TV.

    • If you have multiple “room” setups, the app allows you to play the same source across more than one room.

FWIW I haven’t had any issues with the new app

      • Oh yeah I've done that too and it worked fine

  • +2

The app issues are an absolutely train wreck, hardware is great though and they will EVENTUALLY fix the app one would think, bet it takes a good year though.

I would list all the things that they screwed/removed with the new app but it will make me cry, basically ruined using the Sonos app for easily music selection and ADJUSTING THE (profanity) VOLUME IS EVEN CRIPPLED. (Laggy as hell/ unusable / unresponsive)

I’ve got over a dozen Sonos speakers, they have been the best wireless speakers on the market until the CEO rushed out an app update likely so they could meet some bullshit headphone product release and fuxked over thousands of longstanding customers (it’s been 10+ years for me)

  • -1

They won’t sell much now because of the app issue, meaning they might do a bigger sales end of year to push it. Can’t wait

  • Going one step further I was able to get JB Hi-Fi to price match with VideoPro, scored the Sonos Sub for $995! https://www.videopro.com.au/product/sonos-sub-gen-3-wireless…

  • Cheaper at Good Guys now.

  • Jb hifi price match to westcoasthifi.com.au, add perks $30 off voucher brings it down to $515
