Is this Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 (16", Gen 9) AMD 32GB a good deal at $1329?

I was looking at the 14" deal with the Intel core Ultra 5 but it has expired and was around similar price to this.

I've come across what looks like the 16" variant but with AMD processor which Reddit seems to think is better and it's cheaper than the 14"?

Just wondering am I missing something with the specs here? Maybe the screen is not as good? I would have assumed 16" is always more expensive than 14".

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

As a side note, I'm looking for a laptop with 32gb ram and without a dedicated GPU, 14" is my ideal form factor but I can't see any good deals on one right now. I'll be using it for some intensive coding and very light gaming.

That's a great price IMO - I basically paid similar for the same laptop from China (Lenovo Xiaoxin branding) 6 months back

They also have the 14 inch versions available so maybe consider looking there too? If you OK with importing…..

    • Thanks for your input, I'd read some Reddit reviews on the ones from China. Did you go AliExpress?

If you have the 16" is it the exact same display as the one I posted? I noticed it's only 350 nits instead of 400 nits that the 14" had. Any issues with the screen quality or not being bright enough?

Also forgot to add in the post there is 10% cashback atm for Lenovo which brings this to $1190 which seems great

      • I find it plenty bright - not sure if there's an actual difference in display though

And yes Aliexpress, forget which seller but there aren't too many of them anyway so probably all broadly the same experience

  • Like you I am thinking about buying a Lenovo laptop for programming on.

I have read that 16 inch will use the battery quicker than a 14 inch. Might be a consideration if you are using it 'unplugged'.

Also keep an eye on CashRewards and Shopback eg https://www.shopback.com.au/lenovo

    • Yep another reason I was wanting the 14" although I'll be plugged in most of the time. And yes was aware of the 10% cashback available atm, actually put the wrong price in the title, it's $1192

      • I was editing my previous post to add ->

Lenovo do sell some models which allow for ram upgrades. There might not be a whole heap of 32 GB models listed, but there are quite a few which can be upgraded to 32 GB as long as you don't buy a model with soldered ram. I am looking at buying one with 16gb in a single chip, then buy another 16 from a computer shop / Amazon etc as it usually is a bit cheaper than the Lenovo upgrade price
