Great camera. No one is coming close to matching Kogan for this price $728 (postage included).
This camera sells itself!

It was around $2000+ when it first came out 2yrs ago. I went to JB the other day asking about price matching, they told me they would not even be able to come close to Kogan's price.
Yes, because most company will double their price than US and HK when they supply to oz shops. I want buy a shark vaccume which sell in US for $17X, but they sell for 600 on TV and 400 in Target.
No one is coming close to matching Kogan for this price $728 . only if you can put the price in title….(O)
Thanks! first post :P
how useful is it to have a non-interchangeable prime lens? I'm not an expert but makes me think you'll end up carrying 2 cameras instead of a camera + lens? I picked up the Pentax and while I haven't had much of a chance to use it, I'm hanging to get more lenses to make it more useful.
Dont know much about the Pentax, but I guess it is worth going through some reviews before anyone decides on the X100. However, the X100 has a lot of people impressed.
you cant compare any fuji x series camera with the pentax q. any x series totally shits over the pentax q. the q is not a good camera but rather a fun camera. if youre worried about the lens then go with a ilc like the olympus or nex
Image quality is irrelevant if you can't frame your subject, which is what Jackson was asking about. Not sure how defecating over the Q makes the X100 any more useful.
if you like this camera but want a zoom lens you might want to go with the x10
It's the best pocket size camera you can buy this side of $9k. There is no way you can compare it with a compact POS. APS-C sensor with limited megapickles (which, essentially, gives you lower noise) and a fast, normal lens makes it perfect for photographers.
That's who it's targeted at - photographers who want something small and light to carry in their pocket. A backup, for when you dont want to carry one of your big slr/MF bodies. Same as a classical rangefinder that it's styled upon.
If you just want a 'camera', something for general purpose use, it wont suit you at all. Focus in low light or close up is finicky, the controls aren't designed for your average soccermum, you wont be able to focus on moving stuff, and the video mode is best ignored. If that's what you want, I suggest you look elsewhere. You will just end up ebaying it after a month.
In short, if you don't know whether you want or need one… you don't.
(As for the fixed lens and 'not being able to frame', that's only an issue if you lack feet. Amazing how for a hundred years, people survived with primes. )
Also, the AF really is infuriating. I'm not exaggerating. And the MF is so bad it's unusable.
I love using mine.
This camera is wonderful and … so outdated in its features.
I would say it is a good deal for someone who wants it, otherwise most likely you won't be too happy with its limitations.
Fascinatingly ignorant assessment of a terrific camera.
Foma2 said it was a wonderful camera and had limitations. I probably wouldn't describe the camera as "outdated" but I thought it was a perfectly legitimate, non-ignorant opinion.
Calling it "outdated" was completely ignorant.
I know DSLR style camera is not a piece of equipment. It is a religion.
At least for some people.
The camera has a 2.7" ~400kpixels LCD.
If you want to MF while shooting video, you most likely will struggle.
It is just one of its deficiencies.
Again, there is no such thing as an ideal camera : too low IQ, too big, too expensive, clumsy controls, too heavy, you name it.
It is a very good price but you need to ask yourself first - do I want it ?
As far as I undestand, no zooms is a no go for most of us.
I enjoy my prime lens (I have one only) but I do use zooms a lot as well.
I would rather buy the sony rx100.
X100 vs RX100
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/post/42177671
Depends on intended usage - I have the RX100 and the 5n, also bought an X10 for my sibling.
The X100 is a nice camera and the price is pretty good - though it was better with the free shipping a couple of weeks ago.
Personally, I'm not interested in the X100 - if I wanted a fixed lens that is going to be chunky then I may as well shell out for the FF RX1.
That analysis is seriously flawed, since it includes factors that are irrelevant and weights raw numbers (like the ISO range) instead of comparing the cameras performance.
For instance, the rx100s high iso rating makes it appear 'better', even though it severely underperforms the x100 - as expected, given the sensor sizes.
Snapsort is great when comparing like with like. Not apples and giraffes.

Looks like Second World War vintage.
they are known for their quality and retro-style looks
Too be honest for the look only. If I have to spend 750 might as well buy low end dslr with lens
Great camera with a clever hybrid view finder . The AF is slow but it's a camera that isn't built for anything requiring speed it handles well and looks fab. The low light pics are fantastic… However this model has design flaws. Google sticky aperture issue.
Mine has developed this twice and had to repair it under warranty. If you buy it, make sure it has international warranty otherwise Fuji Australia will charge you an arm and a leg to fix it.
I bought mine from a forum with Warranty and near new for A$450. I also picked up the wide-angle lens that makes this a 28f2. Great for landscapes now.
If you need a zoom or longer lenses, consider the XE1 (the evf is superb) or the X1.
Look at forums for deals.
this is not X10
I bought the X100 with effective crop factor of 35mm.the wide angle conversion lens screws on to make it effectively 28mm.
Do your research. :)
you sure you got the same camera? this has a 23mm lens. so you bought a wide-angle lens to make it narrower?
The crop factor makes it an effective 35mm.
Wow, on which forum did you get it for $450?
exactly my point, $450… and near new with warranty. Which idiot throw that away at that price?
I mentioned the sticky aperture issue earlier. Basically, there's a design flaw where the aperture blades on some cameras got 'stuck' on F2 (ie: wide open). This means that even if you adjust your aperture to anything else, it will be F2.
It's not uncommon to read about people sending it a few times to get it fix. Some people claim that certain batches in certain serial number ranges such as the 13XX serial are OK but I've personally found that to be guff because mine developed it and the serial is in the 13XX range.
Here's a post about the issue and about making sure you get the right warranty for it: http://blog.baquephoto.com/?p=2550
There's plenty of discussion about this on the Fuji X website forums and dpreview as well.
Also, here's the Wide angle lens I was talking about. While is might say 'converter' this is a heavy lens with four lens elements in three groups, turning the camera into a proper 28 f2.8 instead of the usual crappy wide-angle converters that come with degraded optic quality, light fall off etc.

price has now dropped to $699
wasnt this camera close to $1,400 on release day?
