1/2 Price Ruby Frozen Fruit Blend 500g $3.10 @ Woolworths

270

Cherries, Strawberries, Red currants

Probably last day of deal today before new catalogue tomorrow. Some people won’t like the red currants, but I do.

Please insert typical frozen fruit commentary below:
Hep A!
Country of origin?!?!
Carbon footprint!
I don’t like currants!
Fresh is better!
These organic berries at $60/kg are far better in my opinion
Why isn’t everyone growing their own berries?
(Did I miss anything?)

They often say "packed in.." but not where they come from. Which is bugga

Yep our elected officials can be thanked for that.
You would think the " farmers " party aka LNP would fix that.

Trouble is they are more for big biz or mining corps.

      ALP/GREENS No better.

    • Mine says packed in Chile from multiple origins.

Insider here, this usually means the following

        • The strawberries are primarily from Mexico
        • Cherries are primarily from Chile
        • The Red Currants is a bit of a crap shoot. Some from New Zealand, some from Chile. Before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, most of it came via Russia.
  • Going by the comments on Woolworths website -gotta be careful for cherry stones yikes

  • Be forewarned it contains the dirty dozen.

    • Aren't they washed before snap frozen?

I made jam from this blend - recommended!

Wouldn't bother with this unless you like red currants/have a use for them , it's like 90% red currants with a few of the other stuff.

  • Ignorant of the red currants topic - has there been issues?
I was going to get few bags for smoothies

    • Following for this. In the past there have been contamination with frozen fruits, they mostly come from Indonesia

    • I don’t think there’s a specific issue with currants more broadly than any other frozen fruit. I think it’s more that not everyone likes currants and therefore don’t find this to be a good value product for them even when half price. Frozen fruit in general there has been Hep A outbreaks from time to time where these are processed in hep A endemic countries. Because people eat them raw it’s more of an issue than say frozen vegetables.

Probably will be next week as well, marked as clearance not special on the shelf.
