    • If it's the last 4 digits, you should be able to see it by buying something in store with it and checking the receipt. Otherwise, you will have to call customer service and get a new card. Do this quickly as your card has been tampered with and the scammers will quickly drain it.

      • +1

If it's the last 4 digits, you should be able to see it by buying something in store with it and checking the receipt.

Fingers crossed the magstripe has not been erased!

      • Call Woolworths or Vanilla?

    • +3

Yep, this problem has cropped up before.

I am not sure which team the commenter called, but it may be the Vanilla Visa gift card services team run by InComm?

      • +1

Would be Vanilla/InComm, same thing they have requested last time when the gift card was marked "fraudulent", photos of front and back of card, purchase receipt, etc.

Woolworths would be of no help, but in my case it was actually due to human error and they sorted it out (the person caused the error sorted it out).

        • So what was the resolution? Did they refund you the money?

          • @T-man: Team member swapped the gift card. It was only when InComm asked for photos, I noticed the serial number didn't match the one on the receipt and realised what was going on. Went back to the store, found the same team member at the checkout, explained the situation and got the correct gift card back.

            • +1

@browser: I called the support number on the card, and the representative told me to email the receipt and the front and back of the card to this email:

              [email protected]

I’m not sure if this is still InComm or a different company.

              • @T-man: Looks like the same email, but I didn't send it, so no records of it.

    • where/when did you buy it?

    • if you can find coles MC, pay by swipe this card to use up all funds straight away as I did today.

      • The card was declined, which means the magstripe has likely been erased as well.

      • pay by swipe ? can you please explain bit more? Is it also applies to Vanilla Visa card?

        • it's just normal credit card. roll back 10y ago how did we pay by cc? swipe then sign, yes :)
it may be up to store staff if nice enough to not check the card when pay.

          • +1

@test8888: Actually, ten years ago, nearly all cards issued in Australia already removed support for signature verification for transactions in Australia.

    • Last night, I bought two of these cards (Variable Load) from Woolworths Underwood, Brisbane and found the compromised cards exactly as in the news below. Where did you buy your cards?

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLwWtLYz_gY&t

Now got stuck in big row with the card providers. Luckily, I had the activation receipt and outer jacket. I raised with the contact number on the jacket.

Guide me, if you have any such incident. Lets raise it to the police.

Lets raise our voice so that these cards could be sold like tobacco. Only staff should sell these cards.
Only info card should be available on the isle.

      • I mentioned in the comment that I bought it from Woolworths Richlands, QLD. This is what I did to get a refund from Woolworths:

        1. Go back to the store where you purchased the card, talk to the store manager, and ask them to escalate the issue to the gift card team.
        2. Wait for their response. They will receive an email from Woolworths Gift Cards with the subject line: Gift Card Refund - [Your Name].
        3. Then, go back to the store, and the staff should be able to issue a full refund while you're there.

If they can issue the refund on the first visit, that's great. If not, just follow the steps above. Hope this helps!

For anyone wondering, I just bought a $500 Vanilla Visa Birthday gift card, and:

    • I opened the packaging before payment and the gift card appears untampered.

    • 5000 Everyday Rewards points were credited to my account at the checkout.

    • The checkout automatically rejected my Category Choice Groceries gift card (i.e. Items Not Allowed).

    • Wow, you got your bonus points straight away.

      • That is actually the main reason I posted that comment.

I am not sure whether the issue earlier today has been fixed, or I purchased a Vanilla Visa Birthday gift card and that was always unaffected (and the Vanilla Visa gift card with white and gold packaging is/was the only one with the issue).

        • Nah. Bought the birthday one at 8 and the plain one at 11. Didn't get bonus points on either.

    • You are lucky. Just bought a $500 normal Vanilla Visa card, still no points.

    • Thanks for sharing… Did they question about you opening the packaging before paying?

      • The lady at the self checkout area stared at the packaging for a few seconds, because when she gave the approval for the transaction, I did not open the packaging, but after she walked away, I opened the packaging. The lady had to come back to help me again, because I triggered the Items Not Allowed error (and clearing that error requires staff intervention). I got the sense the lady had no idea what was going on, because she looked confused at the packaging and me, did not say anything and walked away!

    • @WookieMonster had the same items not allowed error today. Got caught by surprise then tried to pay with my HSBC in increments and ran into card limit issue too.

    • Y did you use groceries gc all of a sudden? Thought you knew it doesn't work or were you testing it out again?

Good job on the 5k points

      • I was just testing it out, just in case Woolworths did something unexpected/unintentional and accidentally removed the restrictions on Category Choice / Activ Visa / ShopBack Supermarket gift cards.

I also wish I had more than 5,000 points from this deal! I am still looking for more gift cards…

        • Been to 2 nothing so far

Looks like history is repeating itself

  • Nearly bought a variable load Vanilla MC. Came to my senses just in time. No variable load Vanilla Visa cards in sight (WOW Crows Nest).

  • +1

Just purchased 2 x $500, got points immediately. It even popped up on the payment screen that i earned $50 during checkout.

  • Can confirm that bonus points awarded instantly for me this afternoon on variable $500 cards

  • I bougt 2 x $500 cards this morning and was only awarded 1,000 bonus points.

    • +1

Double check you purchased Vanilla VISA and not Vanilla Mastercard.

      • Very good point my friend. I just checked the ereceipt, it is Vanila Visa.

    • +2

I have contacted Everyday Rewards and key take away points
      1. Confirmed my purchase is eligible of 10 x points and acknowledged not all points are credited.
      2. Contact Everyday Rewards again if still haven't received the points by 24/09/24.
      3. Aware that delayed point credit for some customers.

      • Or

        1. No points no payment on checkout
        • I agree with you.

  • A bit of mix results from reading the comments.

For those that doesn't get the points immediately, how did Woolies handled it previously (from anyone that had this experiences before)?

Wait 14 days and they will magically add points automatically or we need to call them to fix it manually?

    • +3

Nearly every single time this happened to me in the past, the points were never automatically credited to me and I had to wait 14 business days from the date of purchase before I could ask Everyday Rewards to manually credit the points. (The wait period is 14 business days, and some Everyday Rewards staff make you wait the full 14 business days before actioning your complaint.)

There was one Ultimate gift card deal where Everyday Rewards automatically credited missing points without needing me to contact Everyday Rewards, but I am not sure if that was a one-off or something that Everyday Rewards will do again for this deal.

      • +1

They fix it automatically for me today, bonus points are awarded on the transaction that happen on 5 Sept morning.
Hopefully they did this to anyone else that are on the same boat.

        • Not yet for me, but hopefully soon.

        • Not yet.

  • Morning - no instant points
    Afternoon - instant points

  • What is the normal EDR earn rate for Vanilla Visa when there is NO 10x promotion

  • Managed to get 2, points straight away. 2x500 Birthdays Ones.

  • So can we use these on PayPal or nah?

    • Yes, you can link them to Paypal

      • Mine just linked successfully but when I tried to pay with it, it errored out.

        • I had that this morning just after buying the card, it worked after about 15-20 mins. Got me stressed that it had already been drained for a sec lol.

  • Got the points instantly at night

  • all sold out at the ww near me

  • +1

Just went to my local Woolworths and got 2 lots of 2 x $500. Points loaded instantly. Plenty more cards on the shelf too. I'll be there at opening time tomorrow morning too

  • -1

    FYI…

From WA, bought 2x$500, after paid, I checked at the supermarket with the reward app it showed 0 points.

Drove home about 10 minutes then opened the rewards app again and it showed 10000points.

  • +1

    From VIC:

Managed to purchase 2 x $500 Birthday and 2 x $500 Vanilla. 2 separate transactions, one after another.

    1st transaction: 2 x $500 birthday
    2nd transaction: 2 x $500 vanilla

Lady was nice, no questions asked.

Received points immediately, converted to Qantas immediately too.

I did ensure that POS machine was showing 10,000 points before I paid.

    • On a single EDR account?

      • Yes.

        • Really? T&C's state max 2 per day….

          • +2

@Miyagi: 2x/card type. They are considered as 2 different types of cards apparently if you can find both. I heard it was the case for the previous sale (eftpos?) as well.

            • +1

@truetypezk: It worked for me during the last Vanilla Visa offer in June. I'm not exactly sure when it started but I believe this has been the case for all Woolworths promotions for a while now. The 20x points offer on Ultimate gift cards a couple of weeks ago was actually much more generous than it seemed on the surface because you could buy 5x Him, 5x Home, 5x Teens, 5x Thanks etc all in one day.

        • wow, so that's 4 x $500 per day (per account) and receive 20,000 points per day ?

Can someone confirm we can do this every day, until end of promo.. provided we can find these cards ?

    • $2000, isn't should be 20000 points?

      • 10,000 points per transaction. I did 2 transaction, so yes a total of 20,000 points.

  • Anyone else having trouble using them paying ATO?

    • wait half an hour after purchase - i had an 'contact financial institution error' which was just me redeeming them too early :)

  • -1

Shopback Supermarket GC doesn't work anymore to purchase this card.

    • Why the neg?????

      • +2

Maybe due to the fact that it never worked? :)

    • Yeah I found this out too when I tried yesterday

  • bought 2 $500 birthday ones this morning - got 10k points immediately.

    • Thdy changed the packaging should be alright

  • +5

I went back to the store where I bought the tampered card yesterday and informed them about it. The store manager was very helpful. He escalated the issue for me and pulled all the Vanilla gift cards off the shelf.

He and another staff member randomly opened the cards and found that many of them had been tampered with, not just the variable ones, but also the $50 and $100 cards. The store is Woolworths, Richlands QLD, for anyone concerned.

    • Did you notice anything slightly off with the tampered ones?

      • +5

Absolutely not, the packaging and the card itself are in perfect condition. I didn’t notice anything unusual. I still have the card and packaging here and will take some photos and upload them for you to see once I’m on my computer.

      • Here are the photos:
        Front
        back

I am still waiting for the resolution, so I covered part of the card number. They erased 4 digits at the front and the 3-digit security code at the back.

        • Insane. thought it would show some tampering

        • +2

The number check on the back doesn't match. Clearly tampered with.

        • What gave it away that it was tampered with?

          • @Poor Ass: You won’t know until you open the packaging and see that four digits are missing, along with the security code at the back.

            • @T-man: hmmm wonder how they managed to stick the card in or is it there own manufactured card

              which four digits?

              • @Poor Ass: The second-to-last four digits have been wiped, just before the last four digits in the photo. Can you see that?

                • @T-man: I see your photo now

just interest how they could do that without tampering with packaging

                  very professional

        • second part of barcode on the card (strips) does not match strips on the packaging, weird.

        • Looking at your back photo, not hard to spot a tampered one.

The red text on the packaging states that the underlined number on the card should match the packaging number.

Since you covered up the number on the card, I can still see "54" as the last 2 digit on the card while the packaging's last 2 number is "01". So it seems like the card in the packaging is being swapped out, and I'm surprised the scan at the counter allowed it.

The ones I just bought match, and they weren't tampered with.

Let me know if I'm missing something.

  • General FYI: Unable to find anymore reloadable ones in QLD. Spoke to a couple of staff who mentioned they have pulled them off the shelf due to scam. Anyone else come across the same?

  • Couldn't find any at around Sydney, random stops.

  • Do someone failed to use the non-birthday one in Aldi like me?

    • How did you try to redeem it at ALDI?

      • Try to swipe it at ALDI but somehow rejected.

Should I just press enter without any PIN?

        • +1

no PIN as I did in coles, swipe then sign

        • +2

You need to swipe, select Credit, say yes on the screen warning you about the 0.5% surcharge, then press Enter without entering any numbers on PIN prompt.

If the PIN prompt screen does not do anything when you press Enter, it means ALDI is requiring a PIN to be provided and you therefore cannot redeem that card. (Vanilla Visa gift cards do not support PIN verification.)

Also, when prompted to choose between Savings, Cheque or Credit, you must choose Credit. Vanilla Visa gift cards only support the Visa network, which means the only valid payment routing option is Credit.

  • @WookieMonster what are the chances, historically, that this or coles mastercard specials would happen again before end of Oct (ATO deadline for taxes)? Cheers

    • +3

It is hard to tell nowadays, because:

      • Coles Mastercard gift card deals with bonus points usually happen once a month, but there have been some months where no such deals happened.

      • For the last couple of years, Coles has run a 10% off Vanilla Visa gift card deal in VIC and TAS around this time of year (and if the pattern continues, it is supposed to happen next week), but I have no idea whether that is the case this year. I am very sceptical, considering all the Vanilla Visa/Mastercard and Coles Mastercard gift card deals lately.

      • I cannot figure out how frequently Woolworths wants to run these sorts of deals, as they only introduced Vanilla Visa / Vanilla Mastercard gift cards in March 2024. I would honestly not rely on Woolworths for these kinds of prepaid gift card deals, because they generally do a terrible job with restocking prepaid gift cards.

  • -4

    Part 1: The Deal
I will focus on the variable card, as that offers the best value.
The current promotion is a $500 Gift Card for a $7.95 activation fee.

Each gift card gives you 5,000 EDR points
2 gift cards can be purchased per EDR account, per day for a total of 70,000 EDR points (10000 per day for 7 days)
They must be purchased in store.

You could potentially double this by getting $1000 of each Visa Vanilla and Visa Birthday Gift cards

Ensure you scan your EDR card at checkout.
    Part 2: The Value
    Option 1:
As Woolies offer $10 off for every 2,000 EDR points, the 70,000 EDR points can be redeemed for $350 at Woolies. After the $111.30 activation cost, that's only a $238.70 benefit. But we can do better than that…
    Option 2:
    I see a value at $630. Minimum!
    How so?

The EDR to Qantas conversion is 2:1, so 70,000 EDR = 35,000 Qantas.
I value each Qantas point at 1.8 cents.
    For a valuation of $630 (35,000 x 1.8 / 100)

After the $111.30 activation fee, that’s a net benefit of $518.70
    A 73.94% greater value.
