    A few words of caution.

Cathay changed their awards table last year, so Asia miles have significantly devalued so 10% off won't give you the kind of payoff one would expect previously.

Secondly, I have also noticed poorer availabilities for redemptions, especially for connecting flights. You may have to redeem each journey separately which shouldn't be a big issue unless the flight is delayed…

All in all, I would not be converting Asia miles on this deal just to bank points, only do so if you already have a flight in mind (with availability).

I recently just able to redeem a business rewards ticket from Cathay using 58000 asia miles (melbourne to hong kong) for a September 2024 ticket during school holiday
on the same date with Qantas, only Classic rewards plus is available with 283300 qantas frequent flyer points

I just randomly pick a date in October 16 for the same destination
and same result that CX has business rewards ticket (58000 asia miles) while QF doesnt (283300 frequent flyer points for rewards plus)

So rewards table change isn't a reason that Asia miles no longer attractive
in terms of availabilities CX is still much better than QF in my experience (unless you are in QF Gold tiers or above)

      • Qantas premium cabin classic reward flights are impossible to get unless you are platinum tier or above and fly in off peak times. The only good use for them is upgrading from business to first. Economy to business is crap too as you can only upgrade of you buy the more expensive flexible tickets which aren't much cheaper than business sale tickets. And no guarantees you will be upgraded.

    • Definitely agree. There's ok availability for Cathay itself. But for general Oneworld availability it's basically the same inventory as Qantas… But still cheaper.
Cathay still has the Oneworld "around the world" fare for 210k in biz, Qantas charges 314k points for the same distance bracket.
Qantas has some additional bilateral partnerships (like Air France/KLM, Emirates).
Neither have a website that is amenable to actually searching for awards.
Neither get any reasonable Qatar airways business availability. You have to transfer to Avios or Virgin velocity for that.

  • Sucks that bonus points don't hit immediately
