Unable to Sign up to Optus Due to Inability to Input Address - How Do I Fix This?

Because my Telstra reception through Woolies is gimped by it not being "full Telstra network" I recently heard of the Optus 7-day network tester thing and wanted to give it ago.

But found out during sign up that I can't even sign up, because my address doesn't show up as selectable, and I can't continue to provide accurate information with my ID. Contacted support and after an hour of screwing around, sending pics, confirming there is "no button to input an unverified address" they then realize they can't do (profanity). Came up with an obvious excuse that "oh, it seems like you're not eligible for the 7 day trial then" after everything I did for the past hour, despite everyone around me showing up on the address suggestions?

They then hit me with some complete random offer for a 30day SIM completely disregarding the fact that I can't sign up to Optus in the first place at all because their system doesn't recognize my address to verify my ID.

After this, I unfortunately hit them with a "What the (profanity)?" and just gave up, I know I shouldn't have but seriously, what the (profanity) am I supposed to do? I was patient until they hit me with complete braindead offer that disregarded the situation at hand. Does anyone know how to fix this kind of stuff? I remember running into my address being unselectable with another service in the past, but it's only rare, but its god damn annoying, and wasted my time today.

Try a different browser, or better yet sign up with a different provider other than Optus.

I have better signal available from optus and vodafone visible on my phone as (restricted) meanwhile the woolies on telstra limited network can't even get reception half the time from even standing in the middle of my drive way, so I don't know how it can be any worse. And since coles mobile uses Optuses full network I'm assuming I can expect the same bars visible on the restrcited, so I just wanted to give them a try.

  • I'd do whatever you did in the other situation to fix the issue.

I had similar occur for me - I lived in a corner block and some utilities recorded it as being on one side of the street, the other recorded it as being on the other side of the street. Maybe if your situation is similar you just need to figure out what that is?

    • I pretty sure I gave up on the other situation, or I managed to get it sorted through whatever that was's customer support.

Optus black lists addresses for various reasons. It's not that they cant find your address, it is probably blacklisted.

Is there an Australian Post / NBN alternative way of writing your address? When I used to work at Optus, some addresses appear what Australia Post or NBN makes it to be and it was slightly different or different from their DL address but still the correct address. Optus pulls data usually from Australia post and the NBN address database

  • you don't need to do anything, optus can just get your address from the hackers they happily let steal your data 2 years ago

  • Do u live in an apartment.. if it is 5/10-14 'street name' just put 10 'street name' and see if it appears

  • Try calling them to activate the trial service. Or do it in store…

  • Buy an Amaysim Sim, to see if that works, as they use Optus Network.
